Yeah, I avoid OOT & a few other hair product vendors, as they seem to think the bigger the file the better!

A large file size is not neccessarily good & a small file size is not neccessarily bad!

Some older good quality V4 hairs, re-shaded for IRay work very well, for a fraction of the system load.

    🙂

One thing you can do to relieve you GPU a little is apply custom shaders (such as Sloshwerks' Colorwerks) on those hairs because the default OOT shaders have way too much specularity/glossiness which has a very high impact on rendering performance AND makes hairs looks like doll hairs imo.

You need the old nvidia driver (417.71) the new 418.x has problems with iray at the moment.

Eh... the latest Nvidia driver is 430.86, and the bug with Iray has been fixed for well over two months...

i have no problem either with my rig to render OOT hairstyles, and i'm having the oldest card of the bunch here so far, a GTX 970.

I stopped using provided hair color materials and always use shaders on my hair, as i am indeed not a fan most of the time of how little choice or options you have.

For me personally, hair shaders look alot better aswell.

TBH, with a few exceptions, all 'modern' hairs tend to be poorly optimised bloatware.

Case in point, in zipped format in the new Kala 8 bundle.

    AprilYSH Nesena Hair 324.6 MB
    PropsChick Arwen Hair 58 MB

@eelgoo i checked my archive for a "most used" chart, April win, alright, big files but good usability and quality

Update: Scene optimizer is a great tool, i dont know why i never used it even it was in my runtime from ages 🙂
