Jeez guys....
I was thinking that if someone had just bought it they'd know about how new it was. If it was on the first few pages then you'd know it was at least a week old. With Rendo or Daz's lack of new stuff these days it takes several weeks for an item to get pushed to the second page.May 25, 2023 at 12:53 AM #1975893Renderosity and Renderhub *DO* post the release date. Only DAZ store does not
May 25, 2023 at 1:00 AM #1975897Also, on the DAZ store, you can search for "New Arrivals" in the dropdown box. If anything appears in that results returned, just consider that asset off-limits for posting until it is not listed there. Easy enough. A scraping tool can be programmed to auto check if necessary.
May 26, 2023 at 12:14 PM #1976625You may install Daz-Deals add-on to your browser, then click 'Readme' hyperlink on the product page to jump to 'Document Center' where you can see the Release Date.
May 26, 2023 at 1:17 PM #1976654I don't mine, even though I'm rank 5. I rarely download from the blog unless I'm looking for something old. And, I am getting tired of the leaks and this would be a way to forestall them. I want the PAs to have a chance to make SOMETHING before it's posted, hence the reason I wait quite awhile before I post an item.
May 27, 2023 at 10:37 PM #1977389It's not that new content is much better than old content. I'm looking for good, not for new content.
As long it is not posted here I don't care when and what creators release. I could wait 4 weeks without any issues. But there is a risk trying to introduce a N weeks delay rule for this community. If one can't share and/or download new content here when available one might share/dl it elsewhere.
May 28, 2023 at 12:14 AM #1977397I think the proposed idea has a lot of merit, especially with regards the extra time for PA's to make sales.
A few side effects that may be caused:
New user to zone buys an item to get some points t buy what they need now is stuck waiting 2 weeks before they start getting points *if it is not a bounty item).
If it does not show on the blog who tracks which of multiple users posted an item first (presuming if they search for the item, it does not show).
The flip side of this is that any new item posted in this way is available to the blog when the 2 week limit is expired. None of this - I will post it to the blog when it suits me. Some items
filled by bounties seem to take an age to get posted to the general community on the blog. I have even seen mods have to post asking for items which have long been filled to be posted to the blog. We are all about sharing.Other than that, great idea. If you want something right away post a bounty on it, if not wait the 2 weeks (or buy it from the hard working PA).
SDL.
May 28, 2023 at 3:26 AM #1977418Always said and still do that your rank should delay when you get items.
Now that we are numbered, your rank should subtract when you get an item. Elite is same day. If you need to wait a week then a rank 5 would be 7-5= 2 days rank 4 is 7-4= 3 days ect... or something similar. This promotes sharing and increasing your rank.At least an issue I still see that I guess I'm the only one that gripes about is some content being held indefinitely after being filled. I wont get into it at length but Ill just add it to this response. Feel free to overlook or ignore it.
Mods can hold content and stall its posting. Delete any items that haven't been approved / being uploaded without permission. I mean that is part of moderating isn't it?
May 28, 2023 at 9:54 AM #1977572I recently talked to the vendor " Dexon3D " on renderhub,
I asked him about pirate website sharing his product. ( I did not mention Zone )
He told me that several peoples contacted him to alert him of this issue, and that he found out that his products appear on zonegfx first and then spread everywhere on the internet.
He said that he understand why people pirated his stuff but that this was his only source of income and he is a relatively new vendor and that he cannot do much against pirates websites. He told me that for his 2 first male character , he got a good amount of sale in the first month, but the sale started to decrease significantly after they where shared here.
But for his latest male character, which was shared here only 2 days after it went on sale on Renderhub and gumroad, he noticed that he lost 50 percent of revenue compared to his first characters. He told me that he is already considering stoping creating characters for Daz if this continue.
Personnaly, I think posting of new Item should be delayed by around a Month. I think that is the best way to give the vendor enough time to make a "good" amount of money.
May 28, 2023 at 11:32 AM #1977593I don't think it's just piracy that's hurting vendor sales. In my other life, I sell 3d-printable designs as a second income. From 2020 to December last year, I was averaging about between $600 and $1000 a month in sales and commissions This year I've not made more than $250/month and have had zero commissions because people just don't have the disposable income to spend on their hobbies. The interest is there but the conversion ratio between the number of 'likes' my designs get and the number of sales has dropped from around 15% to maybe 5% and that's if I set a really low price for the design.
Like Daz vendors I also have to deal with people stealing my work and either selling them on or making money from them without my consent and realistically there's nothing I can do to stop them. At least one of my regular buyers is running an Etsy storing selling mine and other's designs without permission, but every time Etsy or the marketplace I use shuts their account down, they just create a different one and carry on regardless and I've stopped wasting my time playing whack-a-mole with them.
I'd definitely support new releases not being posted for 30 days.
May 28, 2023 at 12:15 PM #1977598Lots of excellent points have been brought up here and there is a consensus.
1) Delaying posting for say a month on new items allows the vendor to make sales AND makes us look like good guys...or at least 'gooder' guys in the pirate community.
2) I don't see this being confusing to new folks since I wouldn't think that a newbie immediately posts items. I'm sure they hang around and download stuff first.
3) I also have ongoing conversations with a few vendors and while I never ask about piracy, a couple have mentioned it and they are obviously disheartened about it. I WANT them to enjoy sales so that they keep making the stuff I want.
4) The point regarding the slowdown in sales because of the shitty economy for the average person, is a very valid point that must be considered. While we aren't going to bring down a vendor on our own, we don't help them either.
I had a brief exchange with Hunter about this and he was non-committal. I'll press it again with him and his court.
On a similar subject, we need to re-write the FAQ as it's horrible. I'll volunteer to do that. I'd also like to suggest that the new posting protocol (once approved) be mentioned in a pop-up.

I dunno...
I hear & understand your argument and concerns for PAs... I just don't know if it is realistically solve-able.The only way to help PAs out is to buy their product and not share it.
If you buy and delay, you are still hurting their bottom line, you just feel a little bit better about itThose that are true Pirates (only share, never buy), are not going to suddenly "buy" an item... they just wait out the 'waiting period' until it gets posted.
The Privateers (somebody who buys AND Shares) is going to keep on, keeping on... so a waiting period doesn't help or hinder too much.
Its a noble gesture, but a bit unrealistic due to the nature of the kind of site this is...

Yeah I don't see having to wait a week changing anyone's mind about dropping $90 on a bundle.
I would be nice for people that share to get early access and give a little bit of an incentive to upload.
That said if I REALLY want an item I'll usually buy it unless its just out of my price range. I have so much stuff now that Ill never use it would have to be something drastically special. Id bet most of what gets downloaded is rarely even used. I got tons of files Ive never unzipped.

Helping PAs out and increasing participation (purchasing AND sharing) are kind of antithetical problems. At least in my book
I don't think that there is a perfect system... the more exclusive it (the zone) becomes, the more we are dependent on folks that actually buy and share.
Focusing on the things that we can do/control to make the site better should be at the top of the priority list.
We had a discussion a while back, and I think Queensknight was working on some coding to iron out any wrinkles we had in the sharing process... I think that is a good start.
May 28, 2023 at 9:56 PM #1977726@redflag,

If you buy and delay, you are still hurting their bottom line, you just feel a little bit better about itYa...I hate it when you make perfect sense. I still think that it's a good idea to delay posting because it might/should/will(?) make us look better in the eyes of the vendors. Hunter mentioned that we could make it voluntary and urge folks to delay their posts of new items and see how it goes. If nothing else it will piss off the pay sites who leech from us, and show their paying members that they aren't getting anything there that they can't get here...for free.
Now THAT would be an interesting experiment! -
