    I have a little problem with some of my renders. Despite using denoiser in my render settings, some of my renders still have a lot of noise, whereas others render perfectly fine - for the best part, at least, save for a couple of grainy items in the scene. Others still, render perfectly sharp and clear with no problems whatsoever, despite using the same settings.

    Has anyone got any tips for how to get rid of the noise and graininess? I'd appreciate any or all advice.

    Perhaps rendering them double the size you need ultimately and then reduction in Photoshop will remove much of the noise remaining. That is how I do it.

    As @anjabear says, render at a higher resolution or increase the amount of light in the scene, then reduce brightness and contrast in postwork.

    @anjabear @SkippyTheMeh Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll definitely give it a try. 🙂

    Increasing the amount of lights, not brightness intself will increase render times as well as increasing render size. Depending on the amount of noise, where the noise is, etc I use either Gigapixel AI and leave the size alone, just using it as a denoiser OR mcasual's script to use the Intel Denoiser from within DAZ Studio. I've found the intel one works better much of the time for CGI whereas Gigapixel works better for real images. I tend to use the intel denoiser for darker scenes because simply brightening the lights then dimming the image with photoshop doesn't really give a good final result IMHO. Then again I just started learning how to use actions and raw filters in photoshop after using it for over 10 years LOL.

    @oldwolf I find that my problems are almost always with darker renders; for example, scenes that use firelight, candles, etc, as I tend to do quite a few dark/gothic/historical or fairytale type renders. I'm not really into contemporary scenes - which are usually brightly lit and almost always turn out well. I mostly use interior scenes as opposed to outdoors, but when I do use outdoor scenes, the renders always tend to have little to no noise. I'll give Gigapixal a shot - I believe it's a Topaz filter, which I currently don't have. The only Photoshop filters I have, apart from the standard ones, are the Nik Collection and Imagenomic.

    Alternatively, you can render the scene using HDRI with a lot of light, and then darken it in Photoshop using NightFromDay Color Lookup. There are dozens of videos on Youtube on how to do this. For example, this.

    I have Gigapixel Standalone. Got v2 I think it was several years ago and have kept it updated.

    @littlepleasures Thanks for the tip! I've been using Photoshop for over a decade and only recently branched out into taking 3D art seriously - even though I've been using Daz for almost as long. Digital painting and photomanipulation with overpainting were my speciality, and I only ever used Daz to render props and figures to both use and share as stock. It's only in the past couple of years that I've developed a liking for 3D art in its own right, so I'm relatively still a novice, so all advice is very welcome. 🙂

    @oldwolf Is it (Gigapixel) available here in the blog?

    You can register and download the program yourself, I have a registry editor file that applies the needed info to make it a non trial version but I don't know what the policy is on here about that. I also don't know how well it works on low light images but there is also mcasual's in daz script to run the intel denoiser. It does work really well. The link is here and make sure to read the instructions completely. This itself may be all you need.

    https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts9/mcjdenoise

    Make a text file and input the contents below.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Gigapixel AI\appMain]
    "forceLogin"="false"
    "ia0"="aWk="
    "lastLoggedInUserName"="any name"
    "userPw"="any password"

    Save and rename to GigapixelAI.reg then run

    @oldwolf Thanks so much for going to the trouble to post the link and the registry edit, but I already discovered it yesterday. I'm really pleased with it so far. 🙂 Thanks again, I genuinely appreciate your help. 🙂

    Add my 2c.

    For me Ive found a good HDRI helps in several but not all cases.

    Add another light but as stated it messes with render time.

    I do not like using the denoiser. As stated render bigger if you can and then size down.

    Its easier to darken areas in PS than it is to try and pull an image out of complete blackness so render a little brighter and then darker areas later.

    I have yet to mess with canvases but, I am sure it will help.
