Newbie - Blender, Character Creator 4, & IClone 8

Hi there, pleasure to meet everyone. I'm just starting out with CG and have begun with learning Blender with the eventual goal of doing 2-3 minute book trailers for my novel(s). I also discovered CC4 and IClone and was thinking of incorporating those programs into my workflow.

The idea of my workflow is:
- Create Characters in CC4
- Create animation of Characters in IClone
- Create environment in Blender
- Import to Blender to create/add clothes to Character
- Apply animations to Character and render video clips

Is this a reasonable workflow or am I making things more difficult for myself? Any input and criticism would be appreciated.

It's definitely 'a workflow'. You could definitely do this and achieve results. I guess the question is how difficult you want it to take to get those results. I will preface, I personally haven't gotten into the Character Creator/iClone workflow myself, but I do know that Daz is chosen by more aspiring animators than the former for creating characters and importing it in for animation.

In terms of animation, I would recommend learning animation in Blender outright. Specifically if you intend to render your animations using Blender anyway. It'll save you a ton of work and headache cutting out the middle man. Importing animations from other programs to Blender isn't hard or impossible but you're going to have to prepare the materials and reapply any changes you made Blender side every time you import your animations. If you animate in Blender you could animate your characters that you already rigged and textured once before.

Thanks for the input Reck. I was already going to start with Blender as that was always where I intended to do the bulk of the animations, so good to know that I'm on the right track in that aspect. I'll definitely hold off on CC/Iclone until I'm more familiar with the Blender animations.
