I'm just venting..
What a pain.. So I finally have my hybrid SSD installed and running as my primary, but it was a pain in the arse. I've been running off a WD Passport since my original HD died 2 years ago. I have my Win8.1 Install files on a flash, plug in the flash and BAMMMMM.. everything goes down and I get an error to reboot and put boot device in proper slot. WTF? I couldnt get my Passport to load or anything, or even get into BIOS to check Boot order.
Well, I had an old laptop that my ex messed with so I couldnt access it, (on purpose), so I shoved in the flash and did a fresh install on it. Yup.. Flash drive was working.
Looked up error and it said CMOS battery might be dead. Bought a new battery and replaced. That reset the boot order but I was able to access BIOS again.
Booted from Flash.. Now I can't install Windows because its not reading partitions.. FML
Back to the laptop.. Look it up.. Get the info BUT, find other shorter info inside from another person in the replies. Apply those steps going into DOS to partition the SSD. That failed a few times, don't know why other that it was saying I didn't have enough space allocated for the primary, which I did. Finally gave it 30GB..
NEW SSD INSTALLED after 3 days.
I still have access to all my files on the Passport, but I have to reinstall everything..
My life is NEVER simple..May 20, 2019 at 8:49 AM #1086188I had an HDD die two weeks ago.
Was big fun moving all my daz shit off of it. And for extra fun, it was my big drive.

I feel for both of you, having both experiences. I moved my entire Primary drive to a hybrid over a year ago. I'd say the improvements from it are marginal. it does boot faster, then takes about the same amount of time to get everything loaded so the system is stable and ready to use.
As for the Big Drives dying. OMG, I've had that a few times. Doesn't help that my biggest drive atm is a 4tb one, and most of the rest of my drives are 3tb ones. my Daz storage drive has died twice in 8 years, and my daz install drive once... complete pains in the ass...
May 20, 2019 at 3:42 PM #1086547One of the best upgrades you can do is run the OS, and preferably everything else, off a proper SSD, buy the largest one you can afford...
And backup, backup, backup...
Which reminds me...
🙂
i.May 20, 2019 at 4:57 PM #1086652Thanks..
Yeah, I can't afford a "proper" SSD right now. Fixed income on SSDI.
I've started transferring. Going to be awhile. But at least I have access and don't have to re-download everything.May 20, 2019 at 7:44 PM #1086806Fixed incomes can make it hard to upgrade and repair systems. I'm too live on a fixed disability income (VA & SSDI) and it can be hard making ends meet.
May 21, 2019 at 12:16 AM #1087061@starryeyes so you get it.. Its taken me 2 years, but I now have a new SSD, wireless keyboard and mouse, bigger video card and bigger PSU. Only a year to go to finish paying off my Jeep.
We do what we can when we can..Only have about 300GBs left to transfer...
May 21, 2019 at 4:46 AM #1087261@drgnmztr - Yea, I get it. I just earlier this year finally got my old graphics desktop back up and running. I still have a few more things to do to it and get but it is at least finally up and running.
