HI all just wondering if and or who is going to host the next art comp ? or when it will be ? I would but I tend to screw-up links and give poor instructions but I will if nobody else is.
I was wondering as well. I didn't enter mine, and I entered the Calendar Girls contest early on. I haven't had a contest to work on for weeks!
Seems like a few of us have beach scenes on the brain. An idea for a theme?
I was thinking the same thing its winter and what would be better than a beach contest . I liked the blind contest it was interesting to see who at the end created what one. I guess it will be up to who ever ( if any one ) decides to put one on.
Food for thought if anyone puts on a Blind Contest again.
When the contest closed, I didn't need several hours to post results; I knew right away who had won because I had been keeping track. It would have only taken a few minutes to compose a forum post with the results. But I had this idea. I thought... what if I put up a side game with an additional pot. The idea would be a guessing game where people would post their best guesses as to who created what. The individual with the most correct guesses would win that pot.
Then it hit me... every artist that entered would guess their own (correctly). Any amateur sleuth could just sit back and, by the process of elimination, patiently wait until the end, slowly gathering the identities of each arbitrary (but not so arbitrary) guess from these artists. The winner would have been the one who guessed last. So I decided not to do that side pot.
But, what if, instead of posting your guesses to the thread, you pm'd them to the host and he or she would post your user name with only the number of correct guesses? That's what I should have done. They could all be fact checked after the reveal, so if the host were dishonest and trying throw points to a friend, the actual person who got the most guesses right could call out the host for the "error".
By the time I figured out the solution, it was a little too late, and I worked very hard at being punctual with the contest, so I didn't want to keep everyone hanging for longer than I said I would with an extension.
@robf4g210 The idea of a side bet is an interesting one 🙂I don't know if you saw my spreadsheet, Rob, but I was the same... Keeping track made the end of the contest that much easier. I'm looking forward to the next contest so I can take part 🙂
I can host one. The same type I did last time (since I don't have a lot of time and I'm a bit lazy)...
