Another beach scene, loosely inspired by Aftyr Byrn's surfer girl. But different.
Comments and critiques are more than welcome!
March 30, 2018 at 8:23 AM #551029Everything, except the water itself, is flawless. Sure, there's some grain left, in the full size view, but that's part of the apeal in this case.
My only critique will be on the water, you perhaps should aim for more, but smaller in magnitude(?) wave peaks, with, maybe some foam on the top. As it is now, it's as if she's standing in a sand-made raft, in the middle of the sea, far from any shallow, near-shore waters.March 30, 2018 at 12:39 PM #551264Thanks! I totally agree with you on the water. I looked for tutorials on creating beach scenes in Max, but didn't find anything I liked and decided to wing it with some noise modifiers. They worked well for the most part, but you are right, it looks more fitting for a boat in the middle of the sea. I should spend more time sculpting white caps, tapering the surf, and perhaps creating a foam texture.
Thanks for the critique!
March 30, 2018 at 4:19 PM #551499Since you mentioned noise modifiers, and, though I'm not (at all) familiar with 3dsMax, I will guess that you're using a black-white generated pattern, or noise uniform, for the waves? If so, maybe try turning the white into a subtler tone, maybe middle grey?
March 30, 2018 at 4:41 PM #551528The modifier actually creates random ripples to the mesh by inputting values on the different axis and strength, but I love your idea. I’m going to try some displacement maps, plus maybe some bump maps on the wave caps, and see how it looks.
Thanks!
March 30, 2018 at 4:52 PM #551544if masking in max is working in any similar way than it does in Poser, here's a little idea. Use the bump-mapping node, as a blending factor, between the main water texture, and a white, foam-ish diffuse map, so that only the peaks of the waves can go foamy.
In Poser, I'd be doing that with a "blender" node, one input the main water texture, the other the foam texture, both color modifiers to white, value on both set to 1, and use the bump-mapping node, as the blending factor. Not sure if that rings any familiar shader structure in max, but, if it helps... you're welcome.April 1, 2018 at 4:41 PM #553806Sometimes simple is all you need for a good render.
Only thing i dont like is the fading around the boarders.
I forget what its called.April 1, 2018 at 8:34 PM #554051Nice.
