hi, I got away from Daz for a while and have recently updated my files, and now when I try to load a material on dicktator gen 8 or gen 9 versions I get a message saying "an error occurred while reading the file. See log for details" I have no idea how to see the log, but I've tried reinstalling dicktator several times in different directories, and have tried the older version with gen 8 and the newest version with gen 9
I would love some help please?
thanks
Dazzling 1August 17, 2026 at 7:34 PM #2184944What version of Daz Studio are you using? A lot of scripts stopped working with the Daz Studio 6 update, but if you use Daz Studio 4.24 (or an earlier version) it should work. I keep both versions installed for this reason.
August 17, 2026 at 7:46 PM #2184945There are updates for scripts https://www.renderotica.com/community/forums.aspx?g=posts&t=285806#post565740

I seldom find it helpful. But if you do peruse it, clear the log, then repeat the error. That way you aren't tasked with scrolling through the entire log, just the most recent error.
Dicktator can be confounding. Not realizing you need to select the correct node (the geoshell rather than the base) when applying a material can be exhausting. That's why I like the 'selector' option; it selects the correct node for you.
And then there's the added confusion of geoshells interacting with each other, turning on and off at will. Ugh.
August 18, 2026 at 2:59 AM #2184971Not sure why you should have problems, use the 'magic wand' at each stage as you work down the Dicktator list, that way it should pick the right thing to do at each stage, like being on G8/G9, or Dicktator add-on, depending on which art your tweaking, I've found if you click on the wrong part it'll throw that error at you....As Demon said above.
August 18, 2026 at 9:47 PM #2185036If it is to copy the mats from the body to the geograft then there is a workaround. All the script does is copy the mats from the body shader of your character and then pastes it to the graft. So you do it manually by selecting the body shader right click it and "Copy Selected Surface" then go to the graft select all the surfaces on the graft and right click to select the "Paste to Selected Surface" option. These grafts load in automatically with the Uber iray shader preset so if you need PBR you have to switch the UBER surface to PBR first and then you can do the copy paste as I was saying before.
