I've got a huge data folder of Daz3D content that hasn't been installed yet. It'll probably take a couple hours of manually moving each folder over to the content library.
Is nobody working on some kind of software that can read the contents of multiple levels of zip files and extract the appropriately named folder structure? I guess once you get your content library in a good place, it's probably easier to manage, but for somebody like me who just got into Daz3D. It just feels like a huge task to install massive amounts of content.
Any other specific tips besides just keeping both folder windows open and dragging content folders over? It would be really nice if all the content wasn't buried in zip folder after zip folder.

You will never be able to find anything.
Start out organised & it is a lot easier to keep up with the location of items.
Have a look at this thread.

Any questions, just tack a reply on it.

August 30, 2018 at 5:36 PM #737517Unfortunately for me, I've already got a 297.57 GB Content library installed this way. So the damage has already been done. I literally have 266.64 GB of content that is just waiting to be installed, but it's such a major undertaking, that I've only been moving over what I might want to use right away.
August 30, 2018 at 5:42 PM #737531TBH I think you would be much better starting afresh with the items you specifically wish to use now.
I take it you are moving over from Poser?
August 30, 2018 at 5:49 PM #737537I'm actually not moving over from anything. I mean I used to dabble casually in Maya about 14 years ago, but I just picked up Daz3D barely even a week.
That is just about the amount of content that I was able to mass download in a short duration. I've got a 1,000Mbps internet connection, so the only limiting factor is how fast can I actually install it. However, it turns out that both installing and navigating the content after it's installed is quite a bit of work.
August 30, 2018 at 6:00 PM #737555I would suggest you set up a seperate organised archive before you install anything.
I would only have installed what you intend to use shortly.
It will be easier to find things & the program will work quicker.

*looks at computer screen with envy*August 31, 2018 at 6:22 PM #739080Yeah, it's pretty nice. It's fiber, so the upload matches the download. Pretty nice for mass backups of terabytes of data.
Unfortunately, before I know I end up with over 300GBs of content in just a day or so and no motivation to sort through and manually install it.
August 31, 2018 at 6:28 PM #739091A nice problem to have though 🙂
August 31, 2018 at 6:31 PM #739096You want to go ahead and remote into my terminal and do all the manual installation legwork? 😛
August 31, 2018 at 6:55 PM #739116My OCD would go into meltdown. :00
Actually, I think I have OCO
Obsessive Compulsive Order.

August 31, 2018 at 6:57 PM #739119You don't want to see my content library when I'm done then. Everything is just getting mass dragged over. It's going to be a cluster.
August 31, 2018 at 7:02 PM #739128Well, good luck finding & using anything.
🙂
August 31, 2018 at 7:50 PM #739180Yeah, that is unfortunately already a problem. I thought even just by installing manually to default locations that all the vendor characters would actually all be under their own uniform vendor folder, but no... Everything is everywhere and the search function is mostly useless.
August 31, 2018 at 8:32 PM #739213I would, as a new DAZ user myself, wholeheartedly advise to start creating custom categories from the very beginning. It's a vendor's nightmare to sort through but once you do you'll have everything nice and neat, just the way you want it.
