Something alarming I stumbled across, apparently there's a new malware infection being spread via Blender's Python autorun API.

Regarding the recent Virus circulating around in a .Blend File

Do be careful with any interpreted scripts like Python (or Lua, or even Qt/DazScript!) that you might be tempted to use in an application. Always check scripts when possible, and sandbox when uncertain or paranoid. And never rely on a single AV solution for answers, use VirusTotal to get a reasonable consensus when vetting suspicious files.

Thanks, that warning was on Slashdot a few days ago, one reason I read it every day.
I buy any Blender add-ons that I like. It's too easy for some hacker to get a membership here or at other pirate sites, stay quiet for a while, then start posting uploads infected with this sort of shit.

Thinking of this, I'm surprised no one has ever tried doing this with Poser (it's had Python in it since P4/PPP...)

Guess the juice wasn't worth the squeeze back then?

Well, folks using Poser don't really comprise a user base that represents studio-deep pockets. Blender provides a much wider net to cast into much deeper waters. Remember, the jerks that provide that malware are fishing for dollars. Malware threats these days are basically always attacks targeted for efficiency.
