Can someone please remove that god awful ai generated woman on the main page please?
We have tons of great artwork by artists on here and somebody uses that basic ahh woman instead.smh.
October 24, 2025 at 6:50 PM #2150150That would be @Hunter to mention it to. He (she, it, alien overlord) is our chief bottle washer here.
October 24, 2025 at 7:04 PM #2150152Remember when we had contests to see whos art went on the main page?
October 24, 2025 at 10:45 PM #2150172Yeh Adam, but we don't have contests any more, and when we try nobody wants to participate.
Maybe Prophecy wants to run an art competition to fix the problem?October 24, 2025 at 11:26 PM #2150176October 25, 2025 at 1:33 AM #2150180Let's all sing together Ethiopia, [or is it Kryten?] I forgot what a shit singer Perry was.
October 25, 2025 at 2:43 PM #2150275My guy we don't have to have contests for an original art piece, just look at the best art we have in the current month and choose that as the main page cover, simple.
Sounds like @Hunter just didn't want to put somebody else's art on the page and instead chose his "art"
October 25, 2025 at 3:50 PM #2150289Hello, I've always found it a bit odd the use of AI for the banner of such a site of 3D artists, but, since some of the forum's most active users are somewhat enthusiastic about these generative AI models, I just deal with it.
Now that you all are discussing the matter, I personally detest it; I think it's the absolute death of creativity and negates the process of creation, which, no matter how painful or time consuming it might be, I enjoy it as much as the final result because, compared to the satisfaction I could get using AI, it is like comparing being able to make an arithmetical operation by myself to being able to make it only when I have a calculator. Maybe it will be slower and harder, but I will have a better comprehension of the process, and, to say it somehow, the power is in my own hand, not in an algorithm subjected to restrictions or trending styles.
I'm not against AI in general; I think there is a brilliant future for it, specially in technical fields like medicine or engineering, but when it comes to art I would very much prefer watching a showcase of users' skills to better appreciate what can be done with these resources.
Should someone think I should lead by example, regretfully I must admit that I am still a terribly unprepared newbie for such a task; I've browsed the art showcase forum and I've seen stunningly lifelike and/or complex images which are way, way beyond my skill, assets library and probably hardware to compete with.
Anyway, these are my two cents on the subject and thanks for giving me the chance to air them out; it was like a little splinter in the back of my mind.
Best regards,
EDIT: a few grammar errors here and there. Still probably missed a bunch of them :-p
October 25, 2025 at 4:47 PM #2150303@keadb, In many conversations here and other forums, the same sentiment has been expressed. We like to call it 'playing with dolls'. Loading an interior, adding furniture and props, characters, dressing them, posing them, and so on is great fun. Many of us don't have a firm vision but playing around will often inspire something. I've spent many an enjoyable evening playing around and only set the scene to render as I head to bed.
The pretenders using AI miss all of that.October 25, 2025 at 4:58 PM #2150305The people using AI aren't interested in the journey. They just want something now. In many regards, it's why a lot of people use DAZ in the first place, because it makes creating scenes extremely easy and quick without the need to even know how any of this works. The AI people just takes it a step further.
October 25, 2025 at 5:22 PM #2150307Both are shortcuts. Both rely on others work. Where I see the line between the 2 is how the image is formed into existence. Nothing in a Daz image is rendered without me personally selecting it. In an AI image a lot, if not all of the image is selected by what the AI "thinks" I want. Now, with prompts I can narrow down and fine tune what AI chooses and even guide it into choosing a select environment or figure BUT, I'm guiding it. Like I said before. AI is basically commissioning a piece of art and then taking credit for it. Its no different than describing what you want to an artist then having them paint/draw it. Its probably the least connection you could have with art. You came up with the basic concept and let a computer think for you. I think somewhere I read Hunter was interested in AI and thats why we see the AI image. It looks cool but not much different than 3000 other AI robobabe images. Ive seen some really weird renders here. While most aren't my taste at least they were creative and formed by a human mind.
October 25, 2025 at 7:05 PM #2150315Of course we are leaning on other people's previous work, I can´t deny it (ultimately, we all rely on a computer, don't we?). As a matter of fact, I would prefer infinitely more being able to create a character or asset from scratch in Blender, with textures and all, rather than using standard characters, but currently that's way beyond any realistic expectation I could have. Considering how character artists, even the most talented ones, release so many extremely similar models I realize it must be hard. Like, really hard. I come from zero 3D skill and DAZ looks like a good place to start learning to crawl before trying to walk. And if my skills would ever improve sufficiently to be able to create a prop in blender -no matter how simple- or something like that, I'd definitely go for it. I prefer to go towards the source of the creation process and I think AI is the embodiment of the opposite direction.
October 25, 2025 at 9:07 PM #2150325Don't knock Perry. What he lacks in tonality, he makes up for in lack of range.
October 25, 2025 at 10:05 PM #2150330@Keab, couldn't have said it better. our minds think alike.
As for not being good at this art. All that matters is dedication and patience, if you determent, you will get better. My start was banging objects together until i got a semblance of a scene, then i asked around and admired other's art and learned from them until i got my own setup established and memorized. So don't worry, if you enjoy it it's not time wasted.
If you ever need help on anything, i'll be happy to oblige ;).
October 25, 2025 at 10:33 PM #2150333I have to admit the main page image does nothing for me and may as well be a DS montage. The thing about generative AI is that it is able to produce images that aren't possible with DS, so I don't like to think the two are in direct competition. The accusations of "lazy" or "stealing" can apply equally to either form and rests on the user's imagination, skill and creativity and not the medium. The Daz gallery is resplendent with utter lazy 3D crap.
Creating a character in Blender or creating a character LoRA is not so different with respect to user-control and personalisation - different skill-sets but neither a lazy, skill-less process. Look up the convoluted LoRA creation process if you think it's for lazy people wanting instant gratification.
After decades of 3D initially I didn't like the idea of using AI to produce images, in fact hated it, until I got to know it better and how to tame it and control it. I'm glad I didn't do a Cesare Cremonini and refuse to look through Galileo's telescope in fear it might contradict my pre-existing beliefs. That was a good lesson for me as a grouchy old fart, no not you Pooper :). -
