Some of us dont have nvidia and a simple render takes aeons. Is it possible to maybe add a tag here that an item has low polygon count? or some other way to find out? I've noticed some hair especially have a big count of polygons

Also not sure if it would help but under

    render settings - advanced

: turn on texture compression to 600, 2000 or 4000 whatever works. I forget the default.

If you arent already, delete EVERYTHING not directly in your cameras view.

Also also, might be my imagination but I found that less is more. Having 400 characters with 40000 morphs will bog you down. delete all characters you never use.

There's lots of ways to decrease render times. Decimator is one, and there's also Scene Optimizer (https://zonegfx.com/scene-optimizer/), which helps with the other big render-time-eater - texture rez.

Also, are you using IRAY, or 3Delight, or Filament as your primary render engine? You might want to explore using something other than IRAY as your render engine, especially if you don't have an nVidia video card. 3Delight can help greatly in that regard, it can produce some rather decent results once you understand the lighting, and it does fairly well with IRAY textures (but for best results, you should convert IRAY settings to 3Delight-compatible textures. You got options for doing so... use this: https://zonegfx.com/rssy-iray-to-3delight-converter-and-merchant-resource/ ...or use this: https://zonegfx.com/convert-it-iray-to-3delight/ )

I messed with 3 Delight and liked the (Point lighting) but stopped messing with it in favor of Iray. I got pretty good results with Delight but mostly stuck with Iray because venders now dont include it often and it seems to be the flavor of the day. Also I happen to have an Nvidia so why not.

I will also also also recommend that you render in layers. I tried putting 4 characters, 4 hairs, several clothing items and a lot of lights in a render. Pretty much crashed my system every try.

My solution was to cut back on a few lights and render 2 characters at a time the splice them in PS. Worked great and I really lost nothing I wanted in the scene. Just be careful with your lighting and try to find a good balance.

Alsox5 Some hairs just are way to demanding on my system so if you get a few crashes, try a different hair first.
