Definitely a possibility. While they do deserve some blame, its silly to believe the environment doesn't affect how people perceive the world. You can teach people values like stealing is wrong. It's up to the individual to decide if they want to be a pirate or not.
The flood of random social media crap with access to the world instantly isn't something I grew up with. Imagine kids bringing their art projects to school done entirely by AI instead of the parents.
November 8, 2025 at 8:18 AM #2152192Neglectful and uneducated parents raise children who grow up lacking curiosity and ambition. When adults ignore the importance of education and proper upbringing, they shape a generation that has no desire to learn, grow, or work. All they care about is their phone and TikTok.
November 8, 2025 at 10:39 AM #2152199A search for highly educated serial killers produced some names
A search for serial killers from stable families produced namesSo we cant just say because someone came from a good environment they will turn out good.
Id be willing to bet a search will also show there are very successful people that came from poor households who educated themselves.
So while I'm sure parenting is probably part of the situation I seriously doubt its to the scale that I believe it to be.
My home environment wasn't exactly stable and I have some issues. Not met anyone that didn't. Somehow I formed values that are mine. I may have encountered them along the way from someone but I choose to select some over others. I think its a culture that formed and since people tend to be social animals it spread like Covid. It isn't helping that its being accepted as normal behavior either. Not long ago you had to look relatively normal to get a job in most places. Now you can look like a circus freak.

Adam - I think we're talking about trends rather than exceptions. Studies show that childhood neglect and/or maltreatment increases the likelihood of future criminal activity by approximately 50%.
November 10, 2025 at 9:59 AM #2152450What factors would cause a large portion of parents to change parenting habits on a massive scale?
November 10, 2025 at 11:40 AM #2152460I'm watching my two kids with their kids and they both have different methods. The one keeps their kids away from all computer time except for very short instances and then, the parents are right there showing them how to use it as a TOOL.
The other set of parents is very busy with their own jobs and hobbies and the kids spend a lot of time online doing stupid shit like endless Roblox. The two sets of kids (my grandkids) are markedly different. I can already see that they're going to turn out different too and possibly not in a good way.
The bright spot is that society at large is starting to realize how dangerous unrestricted net access can be to everyone. The EU especially is taking steps to reign it in.November 10, 2025 at 8:26 PM #2152510Where I live those under the age of 16 will be banned from having a social media account from December 10. This includes Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X, YouTube, Kick and Reddit. We'll see how that works out. It may get them off their phones a bit.
