Products with faults that affect Daz Studio

Sometimes products get released that have problems.
If the faulty product is then shared by someone then all the share sites will end up with it.
If the product is updated / fixed and a person shares that fix then usually the share site with the buggy program will delete old program.

But, that original release has still been downloaded by hundreds and is still out there lurking on other sites, and sooner or later you or one of your friends may encounter it.

I have come across a lot of faulty products that affect daz studio. It always takes time to discover how, where and why the problem is happening but once i find fixes or a work around, I usually then forget about it.

A lot of times we read about someone having problems with a product, and we would vaguely remember having the same symptoms but of course we forget what it was and how it was fixed.

So here is my idea. From now on, when i come across a bugged product I will stick it on this list.

It doesn't matter how old or how small the problem is with a product, I encourage you to please include it on the list.
In most cases the easy solution will be just to uninstall that product.

This list will serve as a check list for people that are trouble shooting their content library.

As the list grows I am sure that this will prove to be useful for everyone.

Wasn't there that G3 (or G8 maybe) character guy that was messing up all the base model because the author had also it's base value always set to 1 instead of 0 ? A lot of post was made about this character here on the forum some while ago.

Something Altair or something like this ? Kinda forgot a bit his name....

While the problems listed above are probably true, all of those problems can be solved without uninstalling the assets...

    Demona:
resave the Genesis 8 Base Model after nulling out the Demona morph

    Nurwin:
    Same as above

Muffin Morphs (and all other duplicate formulas)
there are plenty of tutorials how to fix these online, basic info:
find the offending morphs, change something inconsequential, like the color of the item in the properties list, and resave the asset

    Kytis:
Same as the first two mentioned

Alistair HD for Genesis 8 Male

Alistair HD for Genesis 8 Male
    https://www.daz3d.com/alistair-hd-for-genesis-8-male

This character causes havoc with Daz Studio and Genesis 8 Male - it has encrypted key coding which locks the code itself and the maker apparently won't fix an error inside which causes Daz to inject the character into EVERY use of G8M globally. So any custom character, or just blank G8M you introduce to your scene suddenly takes on all of Alistair's morphs. Ruining your characters completely. The danger is, if you previously created your own custom G8M characters, saved the scene, and then eventually installed Alistair G8M to your runtime, the moment you open your G8M scene - BOOM your character is destroyed by injecting Alistair's values into the figure immediately.

I own the product and have reported it again and again, and now Daz won't refund me the money after telling me a fix was coming. That was over a YEAR ago... I had to rip out the files of this product to prevent further custom character destruction.

I think this is the one @Checkit1414 was referring to above.

Thanks you for that information Errilhl. That is useful.
Uninstalling a product is really meant for people that are not confident editing files, or who are not that clued up on the daz content process.
If people like you, that have better knowledge and experience with these types of faults can offer up extra information on fixes then that's even better. That's what make a great community.
For some people chances are If you have one of these products on the list installed then its very likely that you will have the problem.
If not then your lucky you got an updated version.
Fixing problems is time consuming if you don't know what your looking for.
People may install a bulk load of stuff just like i do and then a day later they discover there is a problem. That makes its hard to find the culprit. A list like this will help people.
My main goal is to just put all the bad products on the list.....
its just a starting point for people to help for trouble shooting.

Indeed. I have had multiple issues with Fit Control over the last half year or more. Not FC itself, mind. But other assets installed that breaks FC. And by breaks, I mean that DAZ crashes (hard crash, closes the program) after FC is added (FC for G8).

Still trying to pinpoint which assets causing the problem, but it's still a work in progress, so can't say that 100% yet.

I have write a fix for Demona last year, and will write it again here so it's not buried for someone who still need it:
[A fix for Demona if you still want to use her, if not, it's better to never install her]
    1. Open your /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 8/Females/Morphs/TMLI/Demona, you will see FHM demona in the folder, open FHM Demona with note editor of your choice (e.g Notepad++),you will find something like this:
    “channel” : {
    “id” : “value”,
    “type” : “float”,
    “name” : “Value”,
    “label” : “Demona Head”,
    “auto_follow” : true,
    “value” : 1,

    2. you see that value is set to 1, change “value” to 0 and save to resolve this problem. Now Demona head morph will correctly start at 0.0%.

    3. Do the same with her FBM files

Should be more or less the same workaround (look for value, set it to 0) for most not encrypted faulty character that set morph to 100%, but man, several creator do goes all the way to encrypt their defect product and worse, never give the fix themselves like what happen with Alistair

I think what Global here is trying to do (List) is commandable. Because, yes, for some people who are a bit knowledgable in how Daz work and it's underlining code, with some help of other community member and internet, it can be possible to find "fixes" for these faulty product.

But here's the whole things! Those product needed FIXES! If they where really supposed to work "has intended" in the first place, by following the same guideline and way of working like.....99.99% of all the other assets made for Daz, there shouldn't even need for such a fix. The product should just have been streamlined easy to install and use like every other product without even for people to wonder "Do i have to do something special to use that product correctly by myself ?"

It's just purely bad programming. Users should never be asked to do "part of the missing work" of the programmer in the first place. Especially in a program such as Daz where the idea of this program is to allow "low level 3D knowledge user" to do some basic entry 3D work with almost no knowledge of how 3D is working. (With some simple interface icon, click and go)

Yes, Daz has also option and tools for some more "advance" and professional 3D work, but for a program that can do 3D, Daz Studio is clearly in the "more easy to start/beginner" program type of it's class.

So although a good deal of product that Globalrecessionn2009 could list would already have been fixed by the author, or have a manual fix available in the wild on a forum, i think if the goal is to make a warning list to say "Hey! Watch out! These product originaly where having a malfunction in their coding.", you should just add them anyway.

Alistair HD is a great exemple. (Thank you @AnjaBear , yes, that was him!)
Although you say they fixed/updated the asset @globalrecession2009 , i think you should add it to you list. Because even if the version available now here is ok and fixed, who knows where other people can fetch him. (On other site, or maybe in private share) And they may get the old faulty version. Just like you said in your first post. Old faulty version are still out there. Plaguing the web and people's Daz program for maybe the eternity. (Ok, maybe i'm exagerating. ^_^ )

You could, maybe for asset that have been fixed and updated by the athor, just put a marker next to their name in your list, stating that these asset where once faulty, but an updated and fixed version have been made.

Only head texture loading - all other textures loaded are base G8 textures.

Don't know a fix yet but manually loading the custom textures is easy enough.

Sorry if I'm being a downer and missing the big picture here,...but do you honestly expect people to use this as a resource by having to go through what will eventually be pages upon pages upon pages of random, unsearchable products based on very a subjective standard of 'faulty' and that ultimately offers nothing more than 'remove it' as a solution?

It may be commendable in some sense, but it is a fool's errand. You'd have better luck compiling your list and creating a PDF (or even a simple text file) that can be downloaded. Updated editions could be offered as more faulty products are added to the total. Or maybe make one single post that you would then edit periodically to update as more faulty products come to light.
