So I'm having alot of fun putting together images and what not. I'm posting a few on an image site here and there though. All the assets I've gotten have either been through here or other similar sites. I've bought nothing, and I'm not skilled enough to make my own yet. However, I wonder if I'm only doing 2d renders what are the chances of any legal actions or whatnot?

Whenever I do "piracy" type actions I try to remain hidden at all times. However if i'm posting images I'm obviously not hiding anymore.

I know i doubt there will be a concrete answer. I just want guidance from someone who knows more than me.

Obligatory not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.

For 2D renders, the chance of legal action is next to none. The Daz TOS states you can essentially do whatever you want with renders, as you are not sharing any of the models themselves, and therefore not allowing others to obtain assets without purchasing them.

If you were to go around posting very publicly about how you are using pirated assets in your renders, and for instance you are using those renders for a game you have monetized, they could perhaps shut you out of revenue sources (ie, remove your game from steam, etc). But there is pretty much no way to verify whether the assets that appear in your renders were obtained legitimately or not, short of the author of those assets contacting you and asking for some sort of verification, or you announcing to the world that the assets were pirated. So, just don't do that, and you should be fine.

Basically it should be fine as long as you don't make a profit with them.

If you are doing commissions, I would buy the assets you are using. The only reason I pirate in the first place is to see if I like the product, if I ever do paid art I will definitely buy it.
