So, what do you think about the new free figure out there? There are some impressive names attached to it and some good looking items.
Out of the box it's a little plain I think, but those HD morphs are killer.
I was really hoping for more support for Project Evolution, but I guess it's dead š

https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/femme-fatale-hd-morphs/134938January 30, 2019 at 11:48 AM #940911Itās going to go the way of other would-be challengers to the Genesis throne for Poser: a strong first couple of months, but itāll quickly flame out when most content creators realize itās not selling as well as Daz items. Thereāll be a few hangers on, but itāll largely be forgotten in a couple years by the general Daz/Poser audience (ie Dawn, Anastasia, Scarlett).
Also, the fact itās supposed to be āfreeā and when you have to make a purchase to get it free is misleading and borderline false advertising on Rendos part tbh.
January 30, 2019 at 12:33 PM #940951I'm not a Poser user so i'm wondering if the clothes and stuff for this new character will work with other Poser characters or is it just for that LE Femme Character

She does remind me of Anastasia now that you mention it Feymarcher. She's one of my favorites but just died from lack of support. I still use her for my nudes, she has an amazing body!
January 30, 2019 at 11:37 PM #941570It's a beautifully sculpted base model that body shape is impossible to achieve with V4. I just hope they get enough support from the community.
January 31, 2019 at 12:04 PM #942258@trader Likely because Blackhearted designed both.
I dunno. As nice of a figure as it is -and it really is, no doubt-, I can't help but feel like it's going to flame out in a couple months.
Strictly IMHO, but it shows that Smith Micro is oblivious to the real problem in front of them (i.e. Poser needs a massive overhaul/update and be more cost-affordable to the new generation of 3D content creators used to robust free 3D programs with pay-for add ons, like Daz Studio and Blender; ffs they lost their one big claim to fame -RWBY- after its creator died and they can't really use that to toot Poser's horn anymore in good conscience) and is instead trying to compete with the Genesis line. Which isn't a bad thing... the last Poser-exclusive figure that tried to compete was a hot mess (Raffael) that was barely supported by except maybe 1-2 content creators after the initial release.
Don't get me wrong: competition is a good thing and makes for healthy markets. But unless Rendo/SM is able to woo big name content creators that have a huge draw (i.e. RawArt, SickleYield, Lady Littlefox, Mousso, Rarestone), I just don't see LaFemme surviving outside of a few Karanta outfits here and there.
I hope I'm proven wrong.
February 1, 2019 at 8:22 PM #944059Every so often we get a new base model targetted at Poser, which in itself is no bad thing, but I think a lot of these creators are missing a trick.
If they are after quantity sales IMO, they have to make it compatible with DS, preferably able to utilise Genesis 8 content, if that is legally viable.
That said, it would be a mistake to tackle G8 head on, it would need some sort of angle to make it different, memorable & appealing.
Dawn nearly made it & had her moments, but even she lost momentum pretty quick & IIRC she was compatible with DS?February 1, 2019 at 8:30 PM #944066Anonymous

I think the whole point is to bring people back to poser. If it's something that can be brought to Daz Studio, it defeats the whole purpose.
Poser died the moment Genesis lost its compatibility.
To be honest, I'm tempted to get Blackhearted's morphs and that new superfly studio and fire up poser again.February 1, 2019 at 8:45 PM #944083I doubt there's anything DAZ can do legally to prevent anyone from making a figure compatible with their stuff, just like Adobe can't do anything to prevent every graphics software under the sun to open .psds
I have never read their license agreement, but every product must be filed with "you can only use this product with official Daz figures" but I highly doubt that would be enforceable, if it was that easy Adobe would have shut down everyone from opening psds ages ago, just like Microsoft tried to block other software from opening word files back in the 90s.
I highly doubt Poser is gaining any new users ($400 barrier of entry to have dev tools, $200 for crappy renders) when Daz Studio is free and does everything it does, has a better built in render engine and that's not even counting the Genesis figures.
New figures for poser are likely just a cash in into the underserviced poser userbase that do not want to move over to DS4, which while much smaller than the DS userbase it receives so little content that anything you do for it is guaranteed far more attention from it than anything you could to for DS which releases a new figure pro bundle every two weeks. If developing content for Poser didn't have a $400 admission I could see people deving content for it while sharpening their skills.
February 2, 2019 at 11:15 AM #944900Whilst I do appreciate the noble cause of propping up Poser, I'm afraid these days I have a mental image of Don Quixote tilting at windmills.
If you are going to put the effort in to develop yet another new base character though, in order to get more commercial viability, I feel you really have to consider facilitating it's use in DS, even if it isn't your prime target, and also making use of the oceans of compatible clothing & accessories available to the Genesis base characters.February 3, 2019 at 4:21 AM #945872There's nothing noble about it, it's just business. Whatever you make for poser, you are guaranteed a far longer spot in the limelight within the poser userbase than anything you could make for DS which would get buried within a couple weeks.
Given how front and center renderosity put la femme, I wouldn't be surprised if the figure was commissioned by Smithmicro themselves to try and boost sales (or at least upgrades to poser 11).
Their graphics software division must not be doing so hot, they lost the license for clipstudio paint and replaced it with one of many "real media" niche painting tools, and moho while doing better than it was when it was named anime studio it's still a niche tool that's stuck between adobe animate and toon boom with extremely limited learning resources.
February 3, 2019 at 9:37 AM #946119I may as well ask. Did anyone who dabbles in poser pick up the "free" model by purchasing something else ? If so would they consider sharing it, as I am curious as to what a more modern base figure looks like for Poser. I do have Poser 11.
SDL.
February 3, 2019 at 9:51 AM #946137If it were purely a business decision, surely wendors would have long deserted Poser for Daz?
I suppose it may be the Big Fish Little Pool / Little Fish Big Pool trade off?
:0/
February 3, 2019 at 5:38 PM #946605Vendors have long deserted to Daz studio, there's a reason why they are at SKU 57k right now when it took them nearly a decade to get to sku 10k in the first place, they are releasing deluges of content every week because everyone is developing for them almost exclusively, and those numbers don't even count all the people on renderosity that develop only for DS either (and a lot of these look like they are on rosity just because they can't make the cut of Daz quality standards or violate trademarks).
Making stuff for Poser is the same as running a specialty store, just because Walmart makes magnitudes more money and has thousands more products, it's not a reason to ignore an underserved niche market.
As long as there's poser holdouts (and there's even carrara holdouts and that software is even more abandoned) there will be people trying to cash in one way or another, and brand new figures will pop up every now and then just like it has been going on since Genesis stopped being poser compatible and Smithmicro did nothing to try and fix it (haven't read genesis license, there might be something there preventing them from adding compatibility).
February 3, 2019 at 5:42 PM #946611IIRC when Daz were developing the Genesis line Smith Micro refused to support them natively in Poser.
That was the reason Daz started developing Studio in the first place.
