The absolute fucking shit of Daz importers, they are unbearable. Years have passed, decades, and there you have them, playing their balls.
Either we make a general statement, as Daz Studio users, or they're going to piss in our faces. That's enough of teasing us.
If you import a fbx, it explodes. If you import an obj, you can't even see it... The collada is disgusting or it's useless.
It's clear that they don't give a damn about making imports, as well as ditching Iray's crap, instead of other render engines. Once and for all, either we make a massive request, or we go to other platforms, to import something simple! Fuck! 😀January 27, 2022 at 7:48 PM #1770946I guess if we could import into DS easily then Daz think there going to lose sales of their DS format products. So there's no incentive for them to make importing easy in DS.
I never imported Collada until recently but I've since found it to be far more reliable than importing fbx.
The best way to piss on Daz Corp's greed and shady practices is to pirate their stuff and share it here like we do.January 28, 2022 at 9:20 AM #1771046@Frank22. I think you hit the nail on the head. Daz seem to go out of their way to make doing anything other than 'playing dress-up' difficult for normal users; want to make your own fibre hair? Tough shit, unless you happen to be one of the chosen few who have access to the dforce toolset. Want to make a tiny change to some geometry? Here's a few dozen hoops for you to jump through. They're like Apple on steroids. Either stump up some £/$/€ or spend hours looking for workarounds and 3rd-party tools to do something that should be easy.
The ironic thing is that, if they released Studio as a plugin for Blender or Unity or even one of the paid 3D packages, they would instantly increase their userbase and still be able to sell all their products! Hell, I'd happily throw £50 at them if it meant that I could have the ease of Studio posing and dressing inside Blender and not have to fight the software to get it to do what I want.
January 28, 2022 at 1:17 PM #1771102I've not really followed the Tafi thing - a consequence of avoiding the Daz forums unless I'm really stuck with something - but I took a look at Tafi's website and it looks to me like that as well as NFTs they're trying to pivot into the 'Metaverse' crap; they've got a 'free' app up for creating VRChat avatars, that would make the director for microtransaction exploitation at EA blush in embarrassment.

It's the exact opposite of this. DAZ makes no money from Studio. They make their money selling stuff in their store. Their system is clunky as heck. Sure, it's easy to learn, but most users hit a wall after a couple of months, when we try and make custom morphs, or create new content in Studio/Hex (don't get me started on Hexagon). It's almost impossible. Weight maps? Seriously. D-former? Come on. Once you have to start using these tools, you find Blender much, much, much more user friendly, powerful and flexible. If they were smart (long shot), they'd use Studio as just a scene-builder and renderer, focusing on improving their horrible memory-management, crappy Iray implementation and bad importer/exporters.
January 28, 2022 at 1:46 PM #1771108As long as there are brainless idiots who pay for this shit, this will never end. I vote with my wallet and do not pay for stuff I feel doesn't deserve payment. And sadly, more and more corpos just don't deserve money they ask for their products. It's just crap but kids these days are not trained to see the difference, they swallow every bullshit corpos throw in their mouths.
Just my three cents. Rebel forever!January 28, 2022 at 3:22 PM #1771154"Crypto money is presently plummeting in value"
...because word got out yesterday (I think yesterday?) that the US Gov't is taking a huge interest in regulating crypto, and that after a report by the Federal Reserve about how it would be really cool to replace paper money with a government-created/backed digital coin. Everyone in crypto-land is nervous as hell right now, and the whales are busy diversifying their portfolios by converting coin into cash and/or PMs (for some, for the first time ever). The coin-heads are rattled pretty hard right now. It'll probably recover for most coin types, but for the ledger/blockchain-style coins that (yes, Virginia) can be forensically traced all the way back to the original miners (like BTC), it might cause a bit of an explosion.
Any-ways...
I don't really blame DAZ too much for the FBX mess.
You see, FBX, as a format, is a shit sandwich. The reason why is the fact that FBX < 5.x is wildly incompatible with the latest 7.x versions (even minor point-release diffs can break compatibility). Autodesk has then given everyone the middle finger by blaming everyone's exporter settings, then saying "Oh, hey, use our free converter to match versions for compatibility!", then hiding that converter from public view after ceasing all work on it. However, you can still get it here: https://www.autodesk.com/developer-network/platform-technologies/fbx-converter-archives - it's good for at least fixing the older messes. Documentation for it is here: https://download.autodesk.com/us/fbx/2013/FBXconverter/index.html?url=files/GUID-4EACEBC7-E3C5-491C-B516-54AEEEF08B7A.htm,topicNumber=d30e369

The SEC said it last year. They blame criminal activity and volatility for their decision to regulate crypto within 10 years. I think they'd rather see it go and replaced by their own crypto currency which is planned.
January 28, 2022 at 10:04 PM #1771378The SEC made noises last year, yes... but the SEC can't do anything w/o a regulatory directive from WH or Congress.
However, both The Fed and White House made noises about it this week, as in they're working to take action... and each can take action w/o congressional blessing.

The Whitehouse made the same noises last year and so did the Feds with their 'ooh, look how bad the Crypto people are with their ransomware attacks', which, lets face, it looked like a good piece of media for smearing the entire market as the bad guys to achieve regulations they so desperately want. The SEC will ultimately do the dirty work of course.
