So on average it takes me about 5 minutes to load a single figure. I have around 60 or so installed for G8f. Is this normal? Or is Daz not configured right or something?

Unfortunately it's normal. When you open a character Daz loads every single morph you've got installed for that figure type so the more characters you have installed, the longer the load times.
December 11, 2021 at 8:31 AM #1756920Thanks. I figured it was daz being crappy with loading but wanted to make sure.
If I had known this a year ago I would have only installed around a dozen characters with the DIM installer, and put in more If I planned on using it. But I'm a bit of a data hoarder, and like to do things manually, and I have about 2tb worth of daz files, so going through them all for a fresh install would definitely be a pain.
December 11, 2021 at 8:41 AM #1756921All morphs count. Most char have 2-6 morphs, so 60 chars should around 250 morphs. But some chars can have 10-40 morphs.
But you must also count the other products that have morphs. Some morphs packages have 200-300 morphs (daz or PA character morphs, the recent meta mixer, aging packages, breasts shaping packages, face control system, etc).
Many expression assets have morphs and expression packages can even include hundreds of morphs. Some pose sets can have embedded morphs, especially if they include expressions. And cloths with skin pressure. EtcBefore installing *any* product somehow related to chars, I check the number of morphs by looking at the readme The readmes always include the file list and you just have to rapidly count the number of files in data/daz 3D/genesis 8/female/morphs/anything. And if there is more than a couple of morphs I double think about installing the asset.
This way it is possible to maintain the morph count under control and presently, I have ~100 chars and the chars loads in around one minute.
December 11, 2021 at 9:27 AM #1756923I always do a manual install.
It is the only way to effectively keep things under control.
Any automated install puts stuff in any random place the vendor has let stuff fall out of their hands.
When installing a character, I check the size of its data file, specifically the folder G8F loads from.
If loading times are a problem, I will uninstall characters I am not using.
I can always quickly re-install them from the Inst file I created before installing the character the first time.🙂
December 11, 2021 at 10:05 AM #1756928I just measured the loading time of G8 base - 15 seconds. My library: about 100 characters, more than 20 morphs packages.
December 11, 2021 at 10:31 AM #1756935mine loads any character in 1 minute or less and I have lots of G8F peeps 200+ and a lot of morphs tooo many lol , some are with custom skins dialed in morphs ect saved in my library.
December 11, 2021 at 7:45 PM #1757116After you load G8F go and look at your log file to see if there are problems or conflicts.
@Hamburgler I have around 60 G8F characters too, a load of morph packs, and my base G8 loads in about 20 seconds.
Some say having your library on a SSD is quicker to load figures, but others say that's BS. I did notice that some things like zeroing a pose or saving a pose preset was much faster when I upgraded my system, so hardware seems to play a part in how quickly DS responds. Not sure if it affects load times.December 11, 2021 at 7:55 PM #1757117As Frank21 says, if you have an SSD drive, speed up the load. According to my DIM, I have 1254 assets installed, all with my "minifier" and the compressed textures. A model takes no more than 20 seconds to load in my case.
Another thing is that you have it on an external USB 2.0 disk ... and ...December 11, 2021 at 11:48 PM #1757183Hey thanks for the replies. So it turns out I do have around 300 morphs installed. For the possibility of an SSD card I've been considering it, but I've read lots of conflicting comments over at the DAZ forum saying it didn't saying it didn't help much.
Would an internal SSD drive be better than external drive for loading? I'm also upgrading my PC to a R5 5600X. I wonder if that would help. I got a R7 1800x currently.
December 12, 2021 at 12:29 AM #1757187If your motherboard supports it, you could get an M.2 to store your DS library. These are much faster than both SATA and SSDs. I don't know if data transfer speed is actually the problem with your slow G8F load times. It's more likely that DS is having a problem loading one or more of the morphs you have.
December 12, 2021 at 1:59 AM #1757204I looked at my log, and I am noticing I'm getting a lot of Could not find output property for formula: and Could not find target property for formula: errors. Is there any fix for those? A lot of them seem to be from pro figures, and zeddicus expressions.
Also the exact load time is 4 minutes 26 seconds for the g8.1 base figure.
December 12, 2021 at 4:28 AM #1757219As far as I understand it it's no easy process to locate and fix offending character morphs. Most people only suggest deleting character's data files one at a time to see if it works, as the DS log file is virtually useless to identify a problem like this. I get dozens of "warnings", mostly duplicate formulas, but this doesn't seem to affect my character load times to any noticeable extent.
On the Daz forums nobody has come up with a easy or simple solution to this. If it's any consolation, some users have G8F load time of 15+ minutes, so be thankful you're not one of them.December 12, 2021 at 6:49 AM #1757227I'm personally relieved its a normal problem. I thought I might have installed something wrong. Its not that big of a detriment to me honestly. Maybe in the future I'll get an ssd drive.

Delete characters you rarely or never use. It just slows you down and you dont use them. In order to get bit more HD space I delete textures I dont use and for speed I delete characters I dont use. In some cases I pull one morph from a package and delete the others.
Make 2 separate content folders. You can split the characters between them. You will probably need to add and remove the file library each time you use a file in that location. just save those projects in the file the items reference. If you keep both files active Daz will probably look through them both and you wont save time.
Get multiple HDs. Store different content on each. When you want to run a certain project, pull that HD. You could set up a fantasy HD, Sci Fi HD ect...
