So I was inspired by another render here. So I figured Id give it a go.

My main issue is that it was rendered without DOF yet its is blurry.

    Any reason why this happens?

I think it looks great, blur is slight at best, try cranking up the render quality a little at a time default is 1.0 try 1.2 see if that helps. though this will make your graphics card not like you much.

another thing is the Max Samples, i uselessly set it to 6500, but you can go much higher. if you really crank the max samples though turn the the render quality other wise your looking at a 2-3 hour render time.

After staring at it for a bit I think the real problem is probably that the reflections on the mech are baked into the model. Is that correct ? I.e. the mech isn’t actually reflective in the scene ?

The Mech was covered with metal Iray shaders ( I replaced the original textures ). The reflections are from a HDRI environment It is likely that the reflections are to shiny or that Im directing to much light on the mech.

It is just a little blur but not bad at all pretty cool scene, I had same happen with a HDRI Environment no clue y

the blur is relatively minor, what is the lighting resolution of the environment ? you could try setting it up to 4k and see if it makes a visible difference.
you don't seem to have an issue with convergence so no real need to adjust it but a value of 99.9% I find is good with the occasional bumping of quality to 2.
the textures on the concrete barriers might need a slightly higher resolution which could alleviate a bit of blur there.
All in all though cool scene it reminded me of Appleseed.

I like it. When I do my final renders I go crazy on resolution, render quality, samples etc. Who cares if it's a long render. Go to bed and wake up to a pristine image. I hope you post it again if you improve on it.
