    Hello everybody!

It all started when Poser 7 came out and found a pirated copy. I've stuck with it up until Poser 11. I was still using V4 because it was a well supported figure that I had already learned how to use.
But since I uploaded to Win 10 from Win 7, my copy of Victoria 4 has been a acting bit buggy in Poser 11. I couldn't determine if it was something exclusive of V4 or if it was a general problem with all Poser 11.

So I ended up taking a break from 3D for an entire year, after over 10 years of using Poser almost every day.

I tried downloading Daz Studio 4.5 but couldn't understand how to make it work. Most of my library didn't load and I just couldn't find my way around it. It was a frustrating experience.

So I'm really lost on what to do now. Does it make any sense to keep using Poser in 2022 and onwards? Should I try to update my V4 characters into any newer figures?
    Maybe something entirely different?

PS I've seen people using models from videogames (i.e. DoA, Final Fantasy 7...) to make their own pictures and I wouldn't know where to start if I could learn that too.

Do you have an Nvidia GPU with a decent amount of VRAM (4GB minimum, 8GB+ recommended)? If so, I say keep trying Daz. Poser doesn't have much to offer anymore imho.

It's always tough to learn new software. It'll get easier after you put some more time in. There are plenty of youtube videos that teach the Daz basics. The Daz forums are also helpful. Daz is free and, since you're here, the assets are effectively free too. It'll cost you nothing but time.

You can start with Genesis 8/8.1 figures. There are a lot of video game characters that have been converted to G8/G8.1. For example, Tifa on the blog. Genesis 9 was recently released, but is still in its infancy so I don't recommend using that figure just yet.

Alternatively, you could try Blender. Blender is free, has a lot of video game assets, and is much more sophisticated than Daz. But it is also more difficult to learn and imo requires much more work for single-image renders.

Having started with Poser 4, I tried early iterations of DS which were very clunky.
As soon as IRay hit, I looked at Studio more seriously.
In a relatively short space of time I was hooked, and now find it quite easy to work with for what I wish to do with it.
Studio is nowhere near as arcane as Poser & can be customised to your preferences, once you are more familiar with it.
    I would never go back.
TBH I think it best to forget Poser workflow & start from a clean sheet with the tutorials.

    🙂

    Ex Poser user to.
I gave up when the dyson filles were needed. Alot of the stuff didn't work well. To be honnest, I had an old pc so no speed, lots of frustration.
Switched to studio, took a bit of time to get the way around in it. But it is ever so more versatile than Poser.
As said above, filling the library shouldn"t be a problem, there is lots of fun things to find.....

make sure you are using poser version 11.1.1.33510 under win 10, if you still want to stick with Poser, because that's the most stable version of PPro 11. but if you want to use the models from videogames there's no way around DAZ studio, because they are mostly based on genesis 8 which you can't use in poser ...

Of course everyone has their own opinion, here's mine 🙂 I've used Poser for 20 years, and still do because it suits me. I've successfully used Poser 11 and V4 on Windows 10. You might need to try reinstalling V4 if you want to continue with Poser. Can't give much advice because my production machine now runs Windows 7 (it's completely offline, no network connection!)

BUT I agree with the others: Poser's pulse isn't getting stronger, it's flatlining. If anyone asks me how to get into 3D character work, I recommend DAZ studio. I've tinkered with it myself and had great results at the newbie level, the only reason I haven't switched is inertia.
