Sorry to hear that, bud. Updating was definitely the wrong call. Starting with Daz 4.3 they slowly began to phase out features that are now gone, or need to be paid for.

I'm sorry that happened to you, they should've asked first before doing that!

I started relatively recently and am using 6. Would you suggest going back to an earlier version? If so which would you call the 'sweet spot'?

It really depends on how you use it.

What functions you need or would like might decide your optimum version.

I do single frame full body renders & use the current DS 4.24.04 Beta.

I find it stable & responsive.

    🙂

Bricks that linky "Unavailable to UK visitors" 🙁

Still hurts, not liking the feel of the new layout at all in this version. And the render times have not improved 🙁

Funny how AI can rrender fantastic images from text in under a minute, yet DZ from a preset scene model takes an age 🙁

If you don't mind me picking your brain, what would you say each is best at?

Originally I started with it as a way to manage poses and build references for controlnet for consistent. AI really isn't the happiest with inhuman proportions and limb configurations. But it ended up being it's own rabbit hole and I am still learning lol.

@Police officer it probably means I should have done what you did and updated as the updates were available instead of thinking it is working fine I do not need to update (head in the sand kind of attitude not good ... ).

Blender can render a scene with Cycles at a higher quality than Iray in about 1/4 the amount of time. DS isn't known for its performance.

One thing that will help prevent losing all of your settings and such? Save a copy of the following directories in their entirety (windows paths - Macs will differ) - and update it periodically:

    • C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME GOES HERE}\AppData\DAZ 3D\ (you may not have this one, it's a legacy/deprecated directory. Check anyway.)
    • C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME GOES HERE}\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\
    • C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\

Back them up every time you add a plugin, before you do an upgrade, or whenever you make changes to the interface, to app behavior, viewport arrangements, any app settings, etc.

This way, if you have to reinstall, you can just reinstall the working Studio version you last used, restore those three (or two) directories, and you're right back where you were before it all blew up.
