This is my first post here. I finally made a render I was happy with and thought I'd share it.
Any feedback will be much appreciated, I'm always looking for ways to improve.

    another title.... yay...

I'd also like to know if there is rules for posting artwork that I'm not seeing, if so could someone please link them, I'm blind. Thank you.

Got my Goth Maid fetish fix for today 🙂

few things from my "personal taste" only.

You may or may not have been going for Goth but if you were her hair is to light.

Even though I dont achieve my goal, my goal is realism even when I render stuff that isnt realistic. She looks pretty close to real but the face is almost anime. Her head seems a slight bit small for her body.

tattoo looks great, Nice blending on skin. Looks like she might be in a spot light since shadows are on the wall instead of on the floor.

I'm not quite sure what "warmer light" means or how to achieve it.
Lighting is very tricky for me, I still have lots to learn.

Thank you for the advice =D

I'm off to google to investigate warm lighting

    @d0gg0d
Goth wasn't exactly the goal things just kinda worked out that way as i played around, I wasn't 100% about the hair color especially since I don't know how to make the eyebrows match so darker may be better. Its worth a try.

I'll try messing with the head size a bit, but the anime(ish) style is intentional.

Thank you for the advice =D

Lots of eyebrows are in the skin. ive photoshoped out a few and used eyebrow add ons. relatively easy. Select, fill and touch up. But you need to do each layer the same. The hair + brows actually look pretty good. Just nit picking one of my other fetishes. Ive got several.

I like that photoshop idea, mismatching eyebrows drives me nuts lol. I'll have to try that out.

Darker hair and warmer lighting (I think I know what you mean now) were both fantastic suggestions. I just finished a quick draft and I like it a lot more. I'll post the improved version when it finishes.

Thank you again for the tips, I really appreciate it.

oohh that looks good... That's a warmer light 🙂 blue cold <-> warm red

so experiment with taking primitive spheres, size of a light bulb, and applying daz uber shader base, and in teh same folder daz emissive shader, change the Luminance Units from cdm/m^2 to kcdm/m^2 in the surface property (hint: select the object, then go to surfaces and look to see how many it has..and find the right one... (ALT-SHIFT-M) to select surfaces from the scene view.

The Emissions temperature goes from warm to cold, 6500 is about base light bulb
Where you tweek it a lot is the position of the bulb/sphere and the Luminance, you'll achieve very realistic internal light this way.

    something along the lines of

I usually convert the surface texture for scene objects in to emissive iray textures. Like light bults in lamps, light fixtures in ceilings etc... great for diffuse lighting.

The DAZ Shaders should be in one of your default shader folders.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Something to play around with, as i have said elsewhere, i think i have given up on spotlights and such for natural scenes.

In this scene i found the light bulb in surfaces and changed to emissive. You gotta play with the numbers to get a likable result 🙂 Hopefully this helps

@aftyrbyrn That helps a lot. I never would have thought of trying to setup lighting like that on my own. I was getting so frustrated with the interior lighting that I basically gave up and deleted the roof and some walls and set it up like a photo shoot with spotlights. Your example is more like what I wanted to achieve. I'll be playing around with your suggestion in the near future.

    You rock! Thanks again <3

Wow! The second attempt is so much better! You're a quick learner! If you want softer shadows you should play with the Height setting of your spotlight and put its Lights Geometry on Rectangle. Nice work again!

Like the second one better. 🙂

Lots of good input from everyone. Helps me improve as well.

I can't say it enough but thank you guys. It's crazy how a few simple suggestions can make such a huge difference. I'm playing around with Aftyr Byrn's advice atm and am very happy with the results so far. I also wanna give credit to the suggestions made on other peoples artwork, that has also helped me learn a lot as well.
