but I am so fed up with trying to download something, and then the screen is plastered with porn ads.

Is it really necessary with the number of other sites people can upload to?

You need pop-up and general 'shit' blockers installed in your browser.
Some posters use trashy file hosts like Bunkr because they don't take down the file when the creator follows the link and asks for it to be removed. Some creators are in here watching for their items to be posted.

I've used Brave Browser for years and rarely see any pop-up ads. No ads on YouTube either. You do get some sites not working if they detect it or an adblocker, but that's the way things are. Well worth it IMO.

    I've got browser overload.
There's two instances of FireFox running, each with a different profile:one naughty and one nice.
    Brave for the VPN.
Opera because it will handle some weird sites well, and....
Palemoon...ya, that old thing. I use it only to keep track of my passwords and bookmarks. It has a compact view and management GUI that's the best I've ever used.

FireFox is always running and has every shitblocker and antitracker in existance running.

All on a hacked version of Windows 7 behind TinyWall for a firewall.

"What?....oh I'm sorry Emule, I didn't mean to exclude you, I didn't think that the good readers here would want to know about my nasty JAV addiction."

For download I use Open-Video-Downloader Ethiopia but it doesn't work with most JAV sites unfortunately, nor do most on-line downloaders. And I don't trust installing apps that say they do.
What do you think about JDownloader?

I don't think I've ever used it. Emule is an ancient torrent protocol that serves as it's own server when you connect. It's crazy popular with the JAV crowd so I don't use anything else. One nice features is that you can preview movies before they're complete. This saves a lot of bandwidth and time. I've also found a lot of very old mainstream movies on it. I grabbed a large collection of high quality sci-fi films from the 50's a while back. 'Amazon Women on The Moon' is a hoot!
There's a bit of older Daz and Poser stuff being hosted by somebody.
Because it's old and obscure it stays under the radar of media companies too.

I just watched the trailer. LOL that's weird, in a good way.

Back in the day, emule was the main poser distribution method. I still have folders, that I swear one day I'll sort, that are named emule poser 1, 2 etc 🙂

I highly recommend the free version of JDownloader works great for me. If you use VPN with multiple proxys you can get multiple downloads from MEGA without having to wait for hours.

Amazon Women On The Moon is available on usenet. Since you're a usenet proponent, I'm surprised you didn't download it from there. As you know, it's 10000 times faster than torrents.

I'm also a big fan of older movies and TV shows, especially Westerns (hey, I grew up in Texas). Usenet rarely fails me. If something has been released, I can almost always find it there, regardless of how long ago it was. My Usenet provider has a 15 year retention.

@frank22, Watch 'Queen of Outer space' with Zsa Zsa Gabor. it's another quirky 50's flic. The costumes are excellent and I'm surprised that no one has ever made them for Daz.

@ulysses, I drifted away from the usenet because most others did the same. I found that it was becoming an 'in' crowd with most stuff either encrypted or passworded. I'd built a massive collection of hi-res images from Playboy for example. There where several folks who posted the updates from the Playboy site the day after they came out. I was also a regular poster in one niche group...we even had a FAQ for the group. I loved the speed of downloading and was lucky that my ISP at the time included usenet support. I still have Agent but haven't opened it in quite some time. For a while I subscribed to Giganews, but let it lapse. I use the NZB search tools but rarely find stuff I'm interested in. I'd love to grab image collections from those soft porn sites but find that they're all torrented anyway.
Wouldn't it be interesting to share all The Zone's items in the Poser group? It's still active...barely.
By the way, what provider has THAT length of retention?

easynews. They were running a deal for $2.50/month for 18 months if I paid 12 months in advance with (supposedly) lifetime price lock-in (as long as I paid annually). I quit my previous provider because their retention sucked. I was looking for a couple of old western TV series in a usenet group that I couldn't find. Someone else in the group sent me the nzb files for it. I asked him what provider he used since his retention was twice what mine was and then switched over.

Yeah, usenet would be the ultimate backup of this place. I know some folks use it to backup their own media files since it's almost bulletproof and they can get the files from any computer that they're using. It's a poor man's google drive (no storage fees afaik). That's one of the reasons there are tons of encrypted files on there. Either personal backup files people have stored or people using it like torrents, but only sharing with a certain few.

I never thought of it that way but it makes perfect sense. I've got a small stack of portable drives with all my precious files duplicated on three separate drives but usenet?....what a neat idea.

The idea I like is for us to maintain several large zip files that older items are backed up to. These can be shared as torrents every year, maybe as a Christmas present. I was going to share those torrents we circulated a couple of years ago over the holidays.
