I was wondering how many members we actually have. Is it 40K or 80K? Either way it's a lot, but I keep wondering why one count is twice the other.

I count my friends by the interactions and meaningful discussions I have with them, but gee @Frank22, that's a nice gesture. 🙂
How many active members would be interesting. Figure a few of those are duplicate accounts. How many active uploaders would be interesting to compare to the total.
@d0gg0d, THAT's something I've always wondered about, the percentage (or number) of people who post vice the number of leeches/parasites/hangers-on or just plain cheap and feel entitled to a free ride through life. There must be some site stats an interested person could have fun with. What say you @hunter, does the site software keep these numbers? I could make some pretty charts and scatter plots for the folks here.
Point is you're assuming there that every member on the site is an active member, or aware of the forums.
When I started toying with Daz a few years ago, I was looking for assets, cos only using base character without clothing, haircuts, props, locations was dull. I came across a few sites offering this kind of services, this one Render State, and maybe a couple of ones who are gone by now. I had a look there, had to fill the application, it was the point system, etc. On the other side, RS was "free" and much simpler to use. So the first year, I had this account I made but never or barely used it since others site were doing the same without having to go through this. And when using it, it was looking on existing items on posted items page, not being available on others sites. It's only when I started to dig more in Daz, willing to do more complicated or themed stuff that I started loking for pelliculiar items, and then I saw it was requests, fillers, etc.
I'm going to kill the possible drama before it starts: I don't care who came first between RS and ZGFX, where the items come from, etc. This is not the topic cos none of this matters to people new to Daz and who are not aware of how things works, who's who. Most are just going to look on the posts page, grab something and leave unaware of how the system is actually working. Not to mention people who got Daz, created an account there, grabbed a bunch of items, toyed with it and gave up after a couple of months, being bored, finding it too difficutl to handle, etc.
