Hi, guys, I am new in daz3d, but i work more than 20 years with autocad and 3ds max. I look all the web and youtube for a tutorial that seems so simple. How to move an object in relation to the figure. I just could not do it. An exemples: Glasses, I cant rotate to forehead. Shoes, i cant take only one from the feet or change rotation. Earings, cant change positions. Please, if someone could help I appreciate it.
July 19, 2019 at 6:43 AM #1167609my first guess is youve selected the figure then clicked on the item. This automatically parents the item to the figure.
You need to un-parent the item and it will move anywhere BUT if you move the figure it wont follow.
This may or maynot apply to your question.
In some cases I find it easier to pose and place the figure and just put items like earings or bracelets where I want them without using parenting. Parenting is more helpful with complex stuff like clothing.
July 19, 2019 at 4:50 PM #1168199Adam explained a bit the gist of it but made a slight lapsus. The correct term he was trying to refer is "Auto-fit" and not "Parenting".
When an object is Auto-fitted to a character, it is automaticaly Parented to it. But on the contrary, it is possible to have an object Parented to a character without being Auto-fitted.
The difference is, an Auto-fitted object will conform to the size and shape of your character while using the intented position and use created by the artist's object. Auto-fit will also make that object follow and pose exactly like your character do, following it's "bone" like a second skin. Bending or streching if necessary and such....
The problem with Auto-fit though, although it is an easy and great way to fit cloth on character, it is also "sticking" them to it. And cimenting them in place.
For exemple with glasses: if you auto-fit the glasses and the artist only designed them to be wear over the eyes, and didn't include in the glasses any morph movement to displace them over the forehead, then that pair of glasses can only be worn like this when auto-fitted.
It's the same thing for shoes or any other object actually. This is why some object include in the morph section some "movement" morph. (Swing left, Swing Right, open, close, lift, pull down, ect..ect...)But a lot of object don't have those morph or have very few. As it take a lot of work for artist to make them and include them in their object. I assume.
So, if the object you are trying to move is auto-fitted, you "can't" really move it out of it original position. As Auto-fit fuse the bone squeleton of that object with the one of the character. There is some buggy way to still move the object, by going on the objet's "Hip" and moving the X,Y & Z axis there buuut....keep in mind that the squeleton of that object will still follow pose of the squeleton of your character. So you can see some...weird and unpleasant/unplanned result.
About Parenting:
If you want an object to be attach to a character and somewhat follow it but be able to place it anywhere you want on or around a character, Parenting is probably what you want to do. The only downside to Parenting, is that the object doesn't conform or auto-fit to your character. Parenting is like taking an object, taking some duct tape, and sticking it to a part of your character. It will move and follow the part of your character it is parented to, but it won't pose, bend or stretch. For that reason almost all object made to be worn (clothing mainly) are always made to be auto-fitted and parented and not only parented.Parented object are mostly used on props item. Object that are only carried but character and have an independent body. (Like weapons, books, broom, ect...)
Some piece of accesory are sometime auto-fitted, sometime just parented. (Like Glasses)
It depend of how the artist made them. So, in the case of the example you gave us above Jantje, for the glasses, i would suggest you to un-Auto-fit them and just parent them to your character. But if you want them to follow the character's head movement, make sure you parent them to the HEAD of your character and not just your character whole body. Otherwise, the glasses will follow the hips direction of your character. (you don't want that!)
The glasses won't be auto-fitted though. So they'll revert to their defaut "sizes" and position. You'll need to manually adjust their size and position by toying with their parameter. You can then place them over the forehead like you want to. If done correctly, the glasses should follow your character head's direction regardless of your character's pose.
For the shoes, it's the exact same thing, but you'll have to parent them to the foot of your character. Keep in mind again that the shoes won't be auto-fitted to your character anymore, so they'll revert to their default size and position. You'll have a lot of manual tweaking to do to place them in the correct position and sizes. If you are having some problem with some "poke through" with the shoes, you can try to cheat a little and apply a smoothing modifier to the shoes in regard of your character.
For piece of cloathing, parenting only is not ideal and it's a lot of headache. As is rarely give good result like we want to. This is why people love and prefer to use as much as possible items that have already a lot of "movement" morph included in them.
But sometime, this is the only way to do it when we want to achieve a specific result.
This is a bit of a downside/badside to Daz Studio.
Auto-fitting is a powerfull and very easy way of a technologie to help "newbie" in 3D achieve good result, but it has it's flaws. (You can't always have everything handed on a silver plate....i guess)I hope what i wrote down can help you Jantje. If something doesn't seem clear, feel free to ask more question. Good luck with your render and have a nice day.
P.S: English isn't my first language, so i hope i didn't make too many horrible mistake and what i said is readable.

July 20, 2019 at 10:23 PM #1169698Thanks a lot again... I do it, and now I understand what was happening... I noticed that all objects has previous information, so what I did was to convert the object into props by taking all previous information and then parenting the object to the fingers of the figure ... Works like a charm...
July 20, 2019 at 10:31 PM #1169710"But if you want them to follow the character’s head movement, make sure you parent them to the HEAD of your character and not just your character whole body."
This do all the diffirence... Thanks I lot man... 🙂
