If so, what's your thought? Is it safe or is it a scam?

    Thanks 🙂

The stuff I looked at looks very much like the hacked models that have been floating around for years. I wouldn't touch this place with...well with anything. To me it screams scam.
Lotsa free stuff though. It couldn't hurt to grab those.

Oh, since I started 3D about nine years ago I download the free models from that site when I need them, and I have to say they are often very good.

Also, what do you mean by "hacked models"? Stolen from that site or from other resource sites like Evermotion, Hum3d etc?

In any case, I've searched around a bit and I've read both positive opinions and terrifying things, such as blocked downloads and that if you want to complete them, you have to hand over your ID and passport. I don't know what the passport is for, but oh well...

Anyway, I'm interested in two models, they cost $7 each, and since they can be paid with PayPal, I thought if there were any problems, I could get a refund or something.

What do you think about it? Actually, I'm not very familiar with these things.

There's a bunch of sites selling and/or sharing all kinds of 3D assets. It's all stuff from established publishers, like all those sleazy paysites for Daz stuff. I've downloaded a bunch of it and none of the items 'worked'. They're all in 3DSMax format and none of the internal links work so you have no idea where the textures go. Most of them where all one huge mesh with no individual items. 3DSMax items maintain all sorts of internal links to where stuff (textures, maps) is on the computer where it was first made. It looked to me (as a dabbler in Max and NOT a pro) that these files had just been grabbed from somewhere and not exported properly as a package that could be used in another 3DSMax installation. I gave up trying to convert them. A few offered the files in other formats such as .obj or some game format. These files where similarly crap. Most of the file names where in Chinese(?) so I assumed that they'd been originally made in some Asian digital sweatshop somewhere.

However, PayPal has always been excellent in my experience and 7 bucks for an involved model is a great deal. Cross your fingers and give it a go if you're feeling brave. Just remember that Blender is free and there's tons of free (and safe) models in BlendSwap.

    Hey @Ethiopia 🙂

I forgot to reply to you, but I just remembered that I still had to tell you that I tried to buy two models from 3DSKY and wow, everything worked out perfectly. I haven't had any issues, so at this point I'm guessing that if someone has had their downloads blocked or any other issue, it could also be due to credit card issues or something. However, I paid with PayPal and everything went perfectly. Original models and excellent quality for only 7 dollars. I will definitely come back to buy more from them.

Excellent, nice to hear. Maybe they've upped their game? There's a few models I wouldn't mind grabbing there.

I don't know. Actually, we cannot know if who complained was in good faith or not, whether he attempted a scam, if the card has been used without authorisation etc. (Myself when i was younger I used my moms card to buy 3D stuff and other shit from the internet and it ended up being blocked 😂)
I mean, people are constantly doing this kind of shit, so let's just say after this experience, I trust them a little bit more.
