In a futile quest to find a universal G9 female light skin to my liking I tested dozens of skins under controlled lighting and the skins are either too red or too yellow depending on the PA. The only somewhat neutral under different lighting conditions is Herschel Hoffmeyer but his veins are a bit too much.
The skins too red use SSS color and too yellow use transmitted color. For skins using SSS adjusting it down making the character bluish. For skins using transmitted color adjusting it closer to white making the character way too reflective.
What do you guys use for light skin?
November 1, 2025 at 4:37 AM #2151150I use G8
November 1, 2025 at 5:58 AM #2151158death HD is a good pale skin, you might want to check that out
November 1, 2025 at 11:29 AM #2151206I use G8 too.
November 1, 2025 at 1:42 PM #2151242I use Omni surface shader, PBRSkin sucks!
November 1, 2025 at 1:56 PM #2151246@scemaduro, can you show an example of your characters with the omni shader, without any post-processing? I'm curious to see it
November 1, 2025 at 8:31 PM #2151273I can't, but you can see some examples on the forum "Daz Studio Discussion"... search for Omni Surface Shader Test.
November 2, 2025 at 2:59 AM #2151289@G8 or else crowd
After playing with what PA can do with G9 head morphs in celeb likeness I am not going back to G8.@Pharrell Williams
The problem with Death 9 skin is that it has a lot of shadows baked into the textures and especially in the case of the head does not play well with celeb likeness morphs.
@scemaduro
I have seen some nice pics of OmniSkin tests but with my skills I am afraid I am stuck with PBRSkin until Daz releases G9.1.November 2, 2025 at 5:51 AM #2151297I guess face morphs are important if you do up close shots or render huge files.
For what little messing around I do,8 and 8.1 are fine and I'm more of a skin guy.
Ive way more morph dials than I'll ever tune but only a handful of skins I like to use. If I install a celebrity its probably only going to add 30% to a dial unless Im trying to duplicate a scene. I almost never dial in just one character 100%.
I reinstalled 9 a bit ago just because I was bored and figured trying to make it work would eliminate boredom. Since then I've hardly touched Daz. Im playing Blood Bowl 3 as well as life stuff.
Honestly Id probably have more fun working on G3 again than G9
November 2, 2025 at 7:17 AM #2151311The "too red" issue has plagued DS skins for years, and complicated by the fact it's also dependent on PA lighting and your scene lighting. I've even suggested on the Daz forums that there should be one standardised lighting (5000K) render for each character/skin so you know what your getting.
Sometimes I even take the skins into a photo program and adjust the colour balance and saturation but that's obviously a pain in the arse.November 2, 2025 at 3:29 PM #2151384G8 or G9 doesn't make any difference since they both use the same shader!
For the redness you can try to adjust the Transmitted Color of the material, set it to a bright color (almost white, but not white!).
If the problem is the texture you can try to use the Layered Image Editor (I hope you know what is it, let me know if you don't). The texture you need to modify is the SSS one (Translucency Color slot). Add a color layer and set the Blend Mode to Additive Blend, set the Opacity to about 10% (depend on how bright you want it). The texture generated are also saved somewhere in your PC (a temporary folder), you can copy those textures and reuse it if you want.November 2, 2025 at 11:47 PM #2151424I've tried playing with transmitted color or SSS in Daz surfaces per usually suggested to reduce red or yellow but none have looked good or even better than before I made the adjustments. LoL I think if it were that easy there wouldn't be such high demand for good looking very light skins.
November 3, 2025 at 1:18 AM #2151428Than there is not much you can do. PBRSkin use Uber Volume for SSS, and you can't change it. I think you should try Omni surface, there is a downloadable version, is not difficult to use.
