I haven't done too many G9 to G8 conversions. I've mainly just been using clones to convert and fit any G9 clothes to G8 figures:

Doing this only once has enabled me to fit any G9 clothing and accessories to G8
And if I don't want to trigger auto-fit to break the morphs I've been using this:

same principla, just putting G8 in the G9 pose.

As for converting textures I've only done 1-2 conversion and they haven't been seamless. I've used Wrap 4D for it and I can get things transferred over for the most part, but there are still noticable seems on the textures in some parts.

TBH I am more interested in the head & body morphs.

Richard's G9 G8F Clothing Clone works very well for clothes & hair.

I've also used this for converting G9 shapes to G8.

From my perspective, if the G9 bloat has to be installed to do it,it severely diminishes the benefits of the excercise.

    OK This has popped up.

Perfect G9 Clone for Genesis 8 Female

Now I am not sure from reading the blurb,

Does this mean you would be able to load a G9 head / body / character morph directly onto G8F prepared with this morph?

@Eelgoo I haven't tested the product but from what I can read in the description, he (?) has deliberately made the product as to NOT being able to only use the G9 head morph....!?

As I understand, you can either get BOTH head and body morph, OR, the body morph ONLY. It's sort of the worst of two worlds. Why wouldn't he include a head morph only option is beyond strange. Could it be pressure from DAZ even if it is not sold there?

    @chonakz

Well, in that case it might be a fair way nearer then.

I might get that & try it.

    Thanks.

OK I read a bit more on it.

    PERFECT G9 CLONE FBM
    PERFECT G9 CLONE BODY ONLY

Once again, I think it isn't a G9 - G8F Character Converter, because the nearest clone listed is the FBM clone. Does that include the head?

@eelgoo The HevieState3D product is a clone, not a conversion. It provides basic clone morphs (dials) for G8, emulating the G9 shape. It does not provide any potential or capability for injecting specific G9 character morphs into a G8 model. That still has to be done manually (the J-Verslice tutorial mentioned multiple times here) until another suitable approach is discovered.

Does this mean you would be able to load a G9 head / body / character morph directly onto G8F prepared with this morph?
    No.

If what you are intending is to do nothing more than get a G8 base model to shape like a G9 base model then the HevieState3D product will work. If, however, you are intending to get a specific G9 character "injected" onto a G8 character, that is still not possible. (At least not with the linked tool. Which, btw, is the exact same product from RHub previously mentioned in this thread and on the blog since October. Causing one to wonder why it isn't flagged as a duplicate. But whatever. Everybody grab points however.)

One silver lining is that the HevieState3D product does not require G9 Starter Essentials to be installed. But, no, it's not a conversion.

At some point, probably when not if, a script or automated process is made for actual conversion, it will very likely require G9 Starter Essentials to be installed. It's difficult to imagine any way around it, since the core of G9 is so very different than G8/8.1, and since any specifically desired G9 character to be converted would be necessarily required on the system as source to convert it.

OK Thanks for the detailed response.

It would be great if we can acheive a point where a G9 head / body / full character morph can be accepted on a modified G8 / 8.1F base.

Personally, I am not bothered about the textures, as there are plenty of decent G8F skins.

I did a couple of successful G9 to G8 conversions.

You need to save the conversion as a morph asset, fix this morph with a free tool from ShareCG and save this as a new morph asset. It works absolutely flawless and reliable.
