I have been a long time DAZ Studio user, but I found something odd.
Does anyone notice that there are no mats for geoshells, torso, or anything remotely G8/G8.1? How do we customize mats unless they made it into a PA deal only.December 6, 2022 at 10:04 pm #1898223I'm confused by the question. You just customize it in the surface tab no?
Like I said I'm probably just missing some information. Care to elaborate?
December 6, 2022 at 10:36 pm #1898234In G8F, under surfaces, you can copy torso, and you can copy to geographed item. In G9, no torso...
I found out that you can bake Genital MAT for G9, but for other parts of the body for added texture I cannot find any option.
December 7, 2022 at 12:00 am #1898243You'll have to give some more information about what you are trying to achieve. I'm still scratching my head from reading both your posts.
In one of your other posts you're new to DAZ studio but now you're a long time user, which is it? Be honest if you want some help.
December 7, 2022 at 3:54 am #1898274Sorry for the confusion. I did not invest time in dforce or character conversion, but I have used DAZ3d long enough from Genesis 2 - Genesis 8 to know that surfaces can have gloss and other stuff. This is why I am an intermediate- amateurish user.
Let's say you try to add tattoos to a torso. No torso mat. If you use V9 there is an existing gen mat, but on other G9 mat there seems to be like a line going across the geograft item. Is it a shader problem gloss vs. no gloss problem like with G3F and G8F mat?December 7, 2022 at 3:57 am #1898275Interesting...
December 7, 2022 at 12:32 pm #1898477Essentially G9 is a new platform. You can copy Torso and paste it to Body individually but more than likely it won't work. G9 has different UVs than Genesis 8. I could see how this could be difficult to understand since Genesis 3 and 8 more or less had the same UVs and Genesis 8.1 which did do away with the Torso in favor of Body, you could still get away with using the Genesis 8 stuff on Genesis 8.1 with a UV set change (or a script that did it for you for the less advanced users).
Your best bet is: https://zonegfx.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-9-genesis-3-8-and-8-1-female/
This is a geoshell that has Genesis 8 and previous gens UVs. It probably won't look as good native textures, but it will allow you to get away with using your older stuff. Especially your older Geoshell stuff. Just load both and copy them over, this Geo shell is supposed to have Torso and the likes.
I haven't used it yet myself, as I'm perfectly satisfied with G9's current state. If it does what it says, you should be a happy camper!
December 7, 2022 at 3:55 pm #1898566Nice! I can see the advantages too. I have seen, in the past, people use Iray Wet FX works or geoshell that had discoloration in the shader preset. It is a lot to learn and catch up on. I remember the difficulties of going from V4.2 to G2F conversion. What a headache, wasn't it? I am glad that everything is streamlined. Perhaps, there will be no oddly placed Iray and Uber Iray presets to deal with again. I downloaded the UV for legacy. Thanks.
