I am putting a new hard drive in solely for daz. It is a 4tb ssd, and I am wondering how to set the paths for everything.
Let's call this drive "X:". So how do i set up the paths in Daz Studio, DIM, and Daz Central?
Note this is only for my daz library. All other files I will install to additional directories. I am only talking about Daz Purchased content in this instance.
Thank you!
VBApril 5, 2022 at 12:16 AM #1792115Top left corner in Daz you'll see "DAZ Studio Formats"
Right click it, select the drive, then select the file "content"At least thats how I set mine up.
Just drop everything into the content file and move it around to your liking.
Id leave the data and runtime alone though.
If your using multiple external drives label them so you know which is which and assign them different names.

There you will find all mappings.
Paths for temp files and DSON cache are on the General tab
Paths for your libraries are in the Content tab, click the Content Directory Manager... button (Daz and Poser content libraries, Daz Connect library, and CMS)
The path to the CMS database cluster is both in the Content Directory Manager mentioned above, and also in the CMS Settings tab.!!! NOTE !!!
If you change the location of your CMS cluster, fine (it can get huge)... but MAKE SURE you update the location in DIM as well as Daz Studio.
In DIM: open Advanced Settings and open the Installation tab. Be sure you update the Content Database Base path to agree with the path you have set in Studio. You can set paths for other folders in DIM (downloads, thumbnails cache, and installed files manifests), though they don't take up much space so you would likely have little interest in moving them to an external drive.
Now you can put whatever stuff you like anywhere you like, just remember if you move the database cluster the path needs to be set in BOTH Studio and DIM.
<edit>
DIM also requires a path to the content library it installs to... make sure you set it to the same path as you set in Studio!April 6, 2022 at 10:02 PM #1792896This is helpful. Thanks so much. Migrating to ssd for os and data drives and this will come in handy.
April 7, 2022 at 12:53 AM #1792929Adam's advise "If your using multiple external drives label them so you know which is which and assign them different names." is important if/when you set up a fresh system @D0gg0d. Probably not if you're just doing a new DS install and you leave the externals alone.
If you don't do this and let Window assign random drive letters for your external drives then links will be broken. I've learnt to take a screen cap of my current assignment and label them, eg, Poser runtime = G, Daz library 3 = F etc. You can them rename the drive letters to what they were before.April 7, 2022 at 6:49 AM #1792987Do you install the DIMS or unzip the files into a daz directory ?
April 7, 2022 at 9:00 AM #1793006Suppose you already have a previous "my library" and you want to transfer it to the external drive. You can copy that folder to your new hard drive, BUT...you must rename the paths in your dsx to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Install Manager\ManifestFiles".
I use a program called "Renamer", where you do a folder filter (Make a copy first...), and you filter them by dsx text by <UserInstallPath VALUE="C:/My DAZ 3D Library"/> to "<UserInstallPath VALUE="X:/My DAZ 3D Library"/> So there is no problem uninstalling old assets via DIM installer.
https://renamer.en.softonic.com/April 7, 2022 at 9:49 AM #1793033If you manually install content (the best way) and don't use so-call "smart content" then you don't need to worry about the dsx files. It beats me how anyone finds their stuff if they install directly to their DS library. I suppose smart content was designed to find the stuff scattered all over the place by auto install.
