Did you create an object behind the cornea to simulate the aqueous humor? It needs its own IOR, so it behaves like Iray's water-in-fishbowl example I posted above.

Adding a thin membrane over a thin membrane still yields a thin-film solution like an empty jar or light bulb. Add the "water" volume inside with its IOR and the "jar" looks full and real instead of empty.

in max it's not needed to create an object behind the cornea because it already is a sufficient closed object/mesh. look at the image, what is called Cornea and EyeMoisture is one single mesh/object. it's just partet in two surfaces/materials. so in max i just add the same refracting material to it and it works like one big refracting object.

the only thing that i've added is the thin membrane outside on top of the Cornea/EyeMoisture surface, but the difference is very subtle. the refraction also works without it ...

    explain

in DAZ it's just thin walled without refraction, you can turn that off, but then it looks weird.

Seems you're missing the point; the outer (thin-wall) membrane has one IOR, the volume behind has another, it's not "just thin walled without refraction" in Daz πŸ™‚
What you show as "one mesh" needs to be two distinct geometries for Iray, to behave how I described earlier.

😄 no i'm not ... that's exactly how i've created it in max, the outer membrane has it's own, slightly different IOR of 1,336 (has a real thickness) and the inside Cornea/EyeMoisture surface has also it's own IOR of 1,376.

    here's a shot from the side ...
    left: preview without refraction
middle: standard Vic81 eye with Cornea/EyeMoisture refraction
right: with Cornea/EyeMoisture refraction and membrane refraction

    example

the difference isn't big, but it's perceptible and the result is pretty close to the real photos (in terms of refraction). so if you get DAZ to refract just the Cornea/EyeMoisture surface, that would already be a big step in the right direction.
