QUESTION: First Render with the new Video Card!

Ok, so now that I have my GTX-1080Ti... I have been busy trying to reinstall all my daz content into the Windows 10 environment that I ended up being forced into, due to Windows 7 going "b-bye!"

So, with only 1/10th or so of my previous content reinstalled (I also had a HD failure, so Yeah, that's where I've been hiding), I now present my first new render!

Day Sail with Kendra and Blair **NSFW**

Also, for those who are interested in technical aspects... render is in 1600x1155 (16mm film format), and took 27 minutes 16 seconds to render. If I had tried this with my GTX-750Ti 4gb card, it would have taken WELL over 3 hours, requiring an overnight render... as that card couldn't render anything over 1280x720 in less than 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

And NO, I can't afford an RTX card yet... lol Lucky I was able to find this one for the price I did. ($500 USD in Used/Excellent condition) May switch from fan to water cooling for it to make it even better, also... 😀

Will switching from fan to water cooling make your card perform better? I thought water-cooling was for over-clocking. I use after-burner with my RTX. The app ramps up fan speed when the temp hits 75 degrees. I am not sure if my case can fit a water cooling kit inside. Let me know when you get your water-cooler.

Any time you can keep the core processor and memory of a video card cooler, will help the card run better. AND if you are an overclocker as well, then that makes even more sense. I happened to find some AOI adapter plates that fit the 1080, to hold an AOI waterblock in the right spot. Just need to find the money to buy the plates and an AOI for it. I also plan on putting one on my FX-8350, to help it last longer (I hope).

In any case, if you have a 120 or 140mm fan space that is currently not in use, you can drop one of the AOI coolers in and mount the fan/radiator there. Or if you don't have one open, you can probably pull the fan that is there now, and put the fan/radiator in that spot.

I always used to have overheating problems, both gaming & rendering, but watercooling has been the magic bullet for that.

Just looked up water-coolers for the Titan and they come as water blocks/ plates. So The actual cooler is bought separate? I know I can find the answer and how to online, but how hard is it to install a water cooler.

That is the one I'm looking at for my GFX card. They may also have one for the titan, but which model of titan do you have? Maybe one of these would work for you titan... you could check the NZXT website and see if it's compatible... 😀 AOI water cooler bracket by NZXT

I wouldn't recommend water cooling a gpu with an aio if you don't have to do that. I have a 2080ti watercooled with the Alphacool Eiswolf 240 GPX, which isn't as cheap as the thing you linked and while it runs cooler, it broke more than once before.

It only really makes sense to watercool if you have a custom loop with reservoir, but then you are looking at 500$+ to build that.

I have the TITAN RTX but no model number. Looking at the MSI afterburner UI, my card is at 33 degrees Celsius, and GPU clock at 300 mhz just idle. So I load up a compute intensive scene in daz, loaded a high resolution HDRI and hit iray and it reads: GPU clock at 900 - 1000 mhz and temp @ 50 degrees Celsius. When I do a render of a 3840x2160 image clock speed stayed in the same range as above and the temp jumped to just 52. So even with a really good water cooler, I may get temps in the mid-40s under heavy load such as hi-res gaming. I don't push my card that hard because I do not game. So it won't be worth it to get a water cooler until I really need one then, huh? One last thing, isn't the TITAN a 2080ti card with more unlocked features? 'Cause the coolers I looked at are milled to fit at least 5 cards in the RTX family.

Not sure whether it's an upgraded version of the 2080 or not, as Nvidia's website doesn't really say.

I like your render very much 🙂
The girl with the red hair has beautiful color blending. The characters are really well lit and the atmosphere is calling me 🙂
To nitpick a bit, the shadows are a little grainy and 1 or 2 thousand more iterations would probably fade that out.
I would love to see more. Make a series! Tell a story 😉

Thanks Cage, for all the lovely comments and the suggestion on the shadow grain. I didn't do ANYTHING other than run the render with default settings... So I'm sure that there are a lot of things I could have done to improve it. As it stands, it took about 27+ minutes to render. As for a series, I was thinking of that... just need to sit and script it out, so I can plan renders, poses, lights, angles, etc...
When I was working on it, I actually visualized in my head the next render... Kendra's snotty lil sister (over 18) pops her head out of the hatch and makes some kind of nasty comment. So the others strip off her suit and toss her over the side, while laughing. Ok, so that would be about 5 - 10 renders... lol Still, a little "scene" that played out while I was building that image.
