I've been dinking around with another figure that used a similar unisex concept - Genesis. G1. The O.G. Unimesh figure. Turns out it adapts very well to toons and toon-like figures. With the right scripts and tools, you can make it do anything! Here's what I've pulled off. I can make it...
- Wear clothes from the earliest 1990s Posette stuff all the way up to G9 (either with clones/autofit on-the-fly, or by using the XD/Crossdresser plugin).
- Use poses from G9 all the way down to V4
- With a bit of creativity, use anybody's hair, from Posette all the way to Genesis 9.
- Iray? No problem - just select surfaces and click a script.
- They make most of the goodies for it that you may be used to - Fit Control, refined movements of various body parts like boobs (via the Evolution morph package), and much more.
- Not quite my cuppa, but for those with a more pornographic goal, yes they make usable genitals for G1 - and DAZ(!) makes them.
- ...and much, much more.
Additional benefits? Extremely rapid load times. Extremely rapid render times. UI responsivity is amazing (the render below took literally 96 seconds on an old RTX 2070, and I cropped it down from 1080p rez). Oh, and like I mentioned, the mesh is very plastic, which lends itself very nicely to doing toon stuff on it.
Below - this little work-in-progress is wearing a G2 skin, a G8 bikini, and used a G9 pose with some minor tweaking. (I think the hair is G1 still, I can't remember offhand. I just tossed it on.)
I'm a bit dense when it comes to understanding Meshes. What HD morphs, Textures, skeleton ect... has G9 improved on so drastically that couldn't have been incorporated into G8.5
So far what I'm seeing is you can have nice boobs if you add a separate boob mesh. Nice gens if you add a separate gen mesh. Nice textures that IMHO don't seem better than 8. G9 is amazing if you add a crap ton of extra stuff and run scripts. All the same stuff G8 either has or can already.
@d0gg0d It's a marketing strategy that says that things must change once in a while for the sake of "reasons".
They do it practically everywhere. They re-arrange supermarkets, putting products in places that make no sense, they change logos, and they also randomly change topology of genesis characters so that you have to buy new stuff.
The idea is to give a sense of improvement which does happen, but sometimes it also comes with some steps back, so that you always have to look forward for that improvement.
Believe it or not, there are lamps that never break (there is one always on since the 1880's), but if companies sold those they would go bankrupt. 🙁

There are minor differences, but they're minor at best, and most of it is truly nothing that can't be overcome with a little work in Blender or GIMP (because I can't and won't afford an Adobe CS sub.)
You can even improvise. For example, if you want a character to squeeze another character's butt, you put a pair of gloves on the squeezer, make the gloves invisible, then set up a mesh smoothing on the squeezee against those gloves. No need for a 100k polygonal geografted set of glutes for that. Or, do it the hard way and export the item as a .obj to make your own morphs for it in Blender for re-importation.
Nah - nothing new under the sun.
It doesn't bother me much anymore. I am happy with what I have with regards to daz3d. I mainly use genesis 8 models. Sometimes I would use some clothing or hair that are from genesis 9. I do what makes me happy.
