I've been searching for male characters (preferably G8M) with a particular look. Characters who could be termed ''beautiful'' as opposed to ''handsome'', without looking like K-Pop performers or non-binary characters, yet lacking those heavy, hyper masculine, giga chad features. But I've only found a couple; and even at that, they're far from ideal. The only male characters I've seen that fit my criteria are the custom characters of a couple of PA's, who are not offering the morphs for sale. The same goes when it comes to male clothing and accessories.

On the other hand, every type of female face, shape, garment and accessory is there for the pickings, from a gazillion sets of pointless under things, to morphs, texture sets, hair, dresses, shoes. (although there will never be the amazing treasure trove of garments and accessories to match V4's phenomenal wardrobe) If you're looking for a homely, plump grandma - there are many assets to choose from. A plastic looking doll-like humanoid with pneumatic t**s the size of beachballs and an arse you could use as a table - no problem. A girl next door type of beauty with imperfect skin and a sweet smile, a supermodel, an athletic looking middle aged woman with interesting features, sexy sirens, becautiful vampires, BBW p0rn stars - Daz/Rendo, etc has got your back. There are even plastic surgery morphs. Yet, there is not even half the amount of variety where male characters are concerned. And, as for historical costumes for men, apart from a few hidden gems, there's only the standard medieval/fantasy/viking assets to choose from.

I just find it disappointing that male characters and accessories don't get the same love, even though i'm aware that the reasons for this boil down to demand and profit. Does anyone else agree?

It is a bit disappointing for those looking for unique male characters but as you said, there's darn little demand for them. There used to be a place called 'Male Poser Erotica' that was catering (mostly) to the gay crowd, but it was hacked and ruined by mother-fucking-renderotica-scum and has never recovered. I've seen a couple of people from that group popping up here and there but I don't see that their heart is in it anymore. It's too bad too.

Definitely agree, but as judging from the art that gets posted it's as Ethiopia says there's little demand for it. Since I've recently started expanding my g8m library to switch up focus I've definitely gotten use out of Zev0's sliders to turn down the hyper masc features to find that middle ground. The hyper square jaw/bucket-head is pretty prevalent. As for clothing, I can only hope mal3Imagery makes more casual wear cause it's so hard to find anything comparable.

@ethiopia I like to recreate famous artworks using 3D, and most of those artworks have male subjects. And, it's nearly impossible to find characters who resemble the men in those paintings and popular fantasy novels. And, then, if I am lucky enough to come close to the appearance of a particular subject; clothing is the problem. It's so difficult to find accurate garments fitting certain historical or certain fantasy periods.

Which is why I've recently redoubled my efforts to learn how to sculpt my own characters in zbrush and design proper garments in MD, instead of learning prop creation like I have been doing.

I never have a problem when it comes to finding female characters, and it's not too difficult to kitbash the clothing, but I wish companies like Daz, Rendo, etc would take into account that not everyone uses Daz/Poser to make p0rn and female based renders.they seem to have forgotten that there are people who use 3D software for something other than pretty girl/pretty girl with huge jugs/pretty girl in obscene pose/K-Pop type male in skimpies in NSFW pose with nude gigachad/monster/anthro creature, etc. *sigh* If other people like that - cool; I don't have a problem with that, it's just not what I enjoy creating or looking at.

@sceryx I spent a couple of hours searching for suitable male characters last night, and I didn't find one that worked. I imagine - judging from the artworks I see, that there aren't too many straight females like me interested in 3D. And if there are, they're PA's who cater to the demand for female assets.

On a lighthearted note; I burst out laughing when I saw a character called ''Samantha'' being requested for a fairly sizeable number of points the other week. Samantha was described as having'' natural'' breasts. These ''natural'' breasts really made me chuckle, as no woman - unless she has a medical condition - has natural breasts half the size of her body, that droop down to her waist if she happens to be slim with zero belly fat. And, if a woman had that problem, she'd sure as hell be wearing an industrial strength support bra until breast reduction surgery could be scheduled; not letting it all hang down and out with a s**t eating grin on her face, because the backache from the likely fractured vertebrae would be pretty severe. Lol On the other hand there was a male character called Cromwell, who looked like he spent every waking moment getting juiced up on roids; either that or he suffered from some sort of syndrome caused by genetic mutation. lol

I'm not a prude or the morality police and people are free to enjoy any freaky adult entertainment they desire to their heart's content, but it'd be nice if vendors remembered that people like me exist too.

I am not really into them myself, but I know there used to be a lot more half decent male characters around, back in the M3 - M6 days.

Mortem Vetus, FW , Tempesta3D & Phoenix66 spring to mind.

Might be worth your while converting the older ones?

I'll be honest, I have to dial in most of my male characters a few % at a time if I want them to look decently normal.

For female characters I tend to dial in the body quite a bit as well but I tend to start with a character's face morph and tweak it rather than start from the base g8. I mostly collect characters for skins and makeups/tattoos.

@eelgoo Yeah, I just might do that. There were some amazing looking male charcaters back in the day. I'd even go so far as to say, that the texturing and sculpting of M4, M5, M6 and the characters created for them, had far more realism than many of the V4 characters, who seemed to be doll like with glassy large eyes and rosebud mouths.

SAV (Joanna) created some really good, realistic M4 characters too, but sadly, she passed away at a young age. Imagine how great her later generation characters would be if she were still with us:(

@wflg-gm I always play around with the paramaters too, because out of the box characters never look as good as their promo renders. It seems that the more prolific the assets have become and the greater the churn out rate, the more the quality of the sculpting and texturing suffers.

@d0gg0d just a few examples, from AI, old paintings and promo renders:

    ex2

That's just an idea of the type of look I find most aesthetically pleasing.

@reinecarola HAH! I looked her up and I think the problem is that there are anti-gravity breast support accessories you just aren't aware of. Hopefully she gets a lot of lie-down time though her back will need it. I run into problems on the other end since I like my female models to have a bit of muscle and it's hard to find base models that get the shoulder/neck/arm musculature size right that doesn't go overboard or is non-existent. Krashwerks almost gets there but their models are so thin! Thankfully supermassive's geometry and a few other tools make that not much of an issue.

As for the guys, you don't want them with 2 helpings of anavar with a side of magnum dong? LOL. As someone who appreciates both guys and girls I get ya, I recently got Cassien and Malikai from Kadaj that I'm happy with to keep as starting points or at least a morph reference. I also notices someone was porting Alex and Gaz from the call of duty series who fit that athletic but not over the top build.

To each their own though as you said. It just means I get way more acquainted with the morphing tools and some externals like zbrush=].

@d0gg0d He absolutely looks the part for an executioner, or a menacing pirate, but not exactly handsome. lol

@Sceryx Hah ha! She's completely unrealistic, though. She'll have someone's eye out with those tatas! Yeah, it's hard to get anything resembling the normal, average person. When people complain about ''realism'' in renders, while morphing the breasts to gigantic size or growing their character's butt to something humanly impossible, I always think to myself: ''Oh, so you think the textures are not giving the realism you want? Textures are the least of your problem when you can't see the most unrealistic thing of all.'' Lol

Yeah, I've been learning sculpting in ZBrush these past few days; it seems like it's the only way to get what I'm looking for. And, yeah the Krashwerks girls are a tad too emaciated. Realistic enough faces, but way too skinny.

While I was out for my old guy run (10K in 1:20...not bad I hope) I was thinking about all my Mike Four characters then @eelgoo beat me too it.
Those older figures are damned good, I still use them because they where made before everything became fetish and extreme oriented.
