I have been re posting a few of the Dead posts now and I normally like to give some time for the original poster to re post the file.. if it is not re posted for some time, then I re post it..
The problem here is that there is no detail on when the post actually went dead..
We have the poster name, posted date and a banner saying that the post is dead.. but the *actual date of death* is not available.. gives me a hard time figuring if I should re post it 🙂So I normally start at pages 30 or 40, which should give a reasonable gap.. but.. it would be better to have the date when the post actually went dead (which should be available)..
August 20, 2022 at 3:37 AM #1858448Good night, there is a post, in which he is not dead, but the second link is missing the mega security key.
UNREAL) 1950s NYC Environment Megapack ( Modular With Interiors And Characters)
( the link has been fixed thanks )
August 20, 2022 at 11:11 AM #1858552@gladson1976 I've reposted a couple of 'dead' assets too, but, before I do, I like to take a look to see if it's a one-off, or if the original poster has other assets in the dead post category. Then I check their member's page to see when they last logged in. If it's only been a few days, I'll drop them a PM, but if it's been months, or if their page just isn't there anymore, I'll go right ahead and post.

The Dead Post area is a weak link in the Zone's Chain. There almost needs to be a moderator, or "helper to a moderator" that is only dedicated to keeping their eyes on the blog/dead post folder (I volunteered months ago)
It would be nice if a re-upped dead post would lead to the removal of said "dead post", so that there weren't two or three post of the same item in the blog.
Also, I kind of do what you do as far starting to look for dead posts at a higher page number, but really, most of the dead posts past about page 2 are usually "older" blog posts that somebody was searching for, found, but the link might be pretty old and dead.
The "newest" dead post are usually from the "over-vigilant" vendors that are members here and send out cease-and-desist orders to host sites when they see them.
A bit of cat and mouse going on, but, really, I'd think you could go as high as page 5 and have nothing but dead post whose body's are cold enough to repost if you have it.
All in all, probably 10ish days seems fair to make a re-post...
As long as their is no obvious malicious intent, I think we all benefit with assets rising from the dead instead of staying in the grave....
Cheers
August 21, 2022 at 4:45 PM #1859026If the item is in Dead Posts, it already has had sufficient time for the OP to respond to fixit notices. It winds up in DP when OP does not respond. So don't worry about affording additional time, if it's DP it's already fair game.
You can always try to contact an OP - sometimes it works, OP didn't know that X went dead... then OP has a chance to get the post rescued.
August 22, 2022 at 2:59 AM #1859192Thanks for the responses everyone..
I normally drop a PM to the original poster if its in the top 10 pages..and wait for a day or two for a response..
@Redflag
i think the dead post gets removed once the same item is posted again.. there may b a slight delay in that I guess..EDIT: Guess it doesn't 🙂

@amberkat I didn't know that the post ends up pin DP only after a few days.. thought that happened once the OP gets a fixit mail.. because I've seen posts that had been posted only the day before ending up in DP..August 24, 2022 at 7:56 AM #1859923A couple of questions guys. A re-upped a product that a member wanted as the original post was dead. But stupidly I didn't check if was part of a bundle that was still live. Fired off a PM to the bundle guy and apologised.
Seeing as the thing I re-upped was posted before the bundle appeared does that move it ahead in the pecking order, or does the subsequent bundle override rights to replace any part of the bundle after it's posted, even though I'm basically only refreshing a link to a dead post, both of which are 5+ years old.
I'm not interested in the points.... just not sure of the etiquette in these matters.March 30, 2023 at 1:12 AM #1948540you also have some dead post like parking garage and Military Base - Premium. Could you please fix that? Thanks

We have discussed this before, but one of the big "dead post" culprits was using google as the asset host.
Sometimes, for some reason, it doesn't work for a user and they mash the "broken link" button, when it fact, it still works fine... It may be a settings error on the part of the downloader, but regardless, i've had post reported that weren't dead...
March 30, 2023 at 6:09 AM #1948564@Gladson1976, I'm talking about @Haziell Parking Garage...

@redflag
Most of the time its Google giving a quota exceeded error and telling the downloader to try after sometime.. but they just don't listen to it or even read it fully.. 😀March 30, 2023 at 6:23 AM #1948576@zavorfang You could just ping him to see of he responds.. or if someone else has it, they might repost it..
