Here we go again...
Instead of just writing solid, robust, stable software that people want, Daz/Tafi is again hedging their bets on another new and unproven technology (scam?, pipedream?)
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/651566/daz-studio-5-with-omniverse-connector-me-excited
And Studio 5 is STILL ~two years away ("Q3, 2025").
How long do they think people are willing to wait? How much of their bullshit are we willing to put up with?
Me?...I'm heading down the AI path and Daz/Tafi can suck shit and go broke.I just searched Nvidia's Connector page and Studio/Daz isn't mentioned.
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/omniverse/ecosystem/?search=studioBoth Blender and Marvelous Designer are listed.
September 24, 2023 at 5:03 PM #2030078Daz isn't listed because Omniverse support won't be there until DS5 releases.
Omniverse isn't a scam, it's just a different proprietary rendering ecosystem by nvidia. From what I've gathered, it's essentially the next step after iray, pretty sure it's AI-enhanced as well considering the overall direction nvidia is moving in.
September 24, 2023 at 5:32 PM #2030089Exactly. Reallusion already depreciated their Iray plugin for future releases in favor of Omniverse.
September 24, 2023 at 6:17 PM #2030106Scam was a hasty remark. The Omniverse is new and unproven and while lots of folks have signed on, it's not HERE yet. I love the idea and am thrilled that my two favourite toys, Blender and MD have signed up, but it's still not here yet. And it's proprietary. That could spell trouble.
Daz keeps holding back Studio 5 as it jumps on the next pretty lady that winks at them. All we're getting are patches that seem to cause more problems than they fix.
They need to GET THE FUCK OFF THE SHITTER AND WRITE GOOD CODE NOW! If (a big if) they get the damn thing out it'll have been four years. They're going to throw everything in the Omniverse basket and if Omniverse collapses or something else eclipses it, Daz will be screwed yet again. More likely it'll be a hobbled version because Daz won't pay NVidia's licensing fee and we'll have to stumble along with no documentation while looking wistfully at other programs that have the full meal deal. However, I really don't know shit so you should probably ignore all this. 🙂
September 26, 2023 at 11:56 PM #2030995Omniverse uses Iray, straight up, they just call it a different name because "Iray" is so niche nobody knows what Iray is. It isn't a special or different version of Iray. However, they do get the new Iray updates much faster, so it might perform differently than Iray in Daz. Omniverse always has the latest version of Iray available. Currently, the Iray in Daz is very outdated, it is like an entire year behind. The Iray in Omniverse has numerous enhancements, including better support for the 4000 series.
My personal excitement for Omniverse comes down to the ability to use USD. USD is being supported by many apps, and it will make transferring content both in and out of Daz easier than ever. That is assuming they do not screw this up, my concern is that they do something stupid like making USD an export only option. But as long as USD becomes an import and export option in Daz, it opens up all kinds of possibilities.
For one, you will not have to wait for Daz to get around to updating Iray, you can send your scene to Omniverse and render it there in the latest version with all the enhancements. It will make the fan artists really happy when they can use Blender to send any model extracted from a video game to Daz or Omniverse via USD. They will not need to do nearly as much work.
So it is more about USD support than Omniverse itself. But Omniverse does give you access to many different render engines, including game engines, to make animations. However, Omniverse isn't the most user friendly thing right now. It needs a little work.
But I do think it will keep improving. Omniverse is not going to fail. It certainly has a better long term outlook than Daz.September 27, 2023 at 1:02 AM #2031032Thanks for that in depth explanation.
I can't see Daz allowing easy import, or ANY import of other characters or items into Studio since that might mean less sales of items from the Daz store.September 27, 2023 at 3:19 AM #2031065BamBoozler90 really messed me up.
For about 10 minutes I thought they were talking about the Us Dollar (USD).
I had forgotten about that file system. -
