I just stumbled uppon this article:
https://www.maketafi.com/newsroom
**Salt Lake City, UT – Tafi, a leading provider of 3D digital content and software and owner of Daz 3D, is proud to announce its latest development: a groundbreaking text to 3D character engine. This innovative technology will revolutionize the way in which artists, developers, and other creative professionals of all skill levels bring their ideas to life, making it easier and faster than ever before to produce high-quality 3D characters, based exclusively on text input. **https://www.maketafi.com/ai
**Jumpstart Your CreativityWe populated this scene in Unreal Engine with characters made using a prototype of Tafi's Text-to-3D Character Engine. Every character is unique and the whole scene only took a fraction of the time - as in, a few minutes total! Best of all, these files are optimized to work natively in Unreal, Unity, Max, Maya, Blender, Omniverse, and
Daz Studio
- we’re aiming to deliver the biggest breakthrough ever for generating 3D characters. We wanted to give you a peek behind the curtain to show the mountain of proprietary, detailed, and structured data powering this Al engine.**
June 30, 2023 at 2:39 PM #1992227Does this mean no one has to buy Daz Assets ever again??? It looks like the AI creates images and characters anyway you like, with Daz Assets, but you don't have to pay for those assets as the AI uses EVERYTHING in the store!
How is that going to work out for the vendors?
TAFI took over Daz3D and doesn't realize that the CORE Base of users are poorer people who cannot afford the ridiculous prices they are now charging.
They've pretty much killed their Hobbyist market, and beginners cannot afford much in the store, at 17-20 USD apiece and bundles costing non Daz++ members over 100-200 USD.
I'm trying to figure out where this is going and where it will actually head.
Unity has introduced its own AI, and it looks Amazeballs.
But the question of ETHICAL AI is the big cliffhanger for many REAL TRADITIONAL ARTISTS who are being exploited and having all their works scraped and stolen and used to train AI like Stable Diffusion.
Cheers,
AnjaBearJune 30, 2023 at 4:19 PM #1992245I have the feeling that a part of AI will be implemented in Daz studio 5, now these days the developement goes crazy fast indeed. Yes Anjabear I think AI hurts alot of artists, I guess in near future artists NEED to understand how AI works. I spend 2 days investigating in AI and for a noob like me it's really hard to learn it, things chanching so fast and almost every week there is a new version at the horizon. Today I also found an article about a book store to start a process in court becouse some AI models were trained with a catagory of their books. With that said I think AI abusing other artists work to "train" models, on the other hand I would like to play with that TAFI AI tool.
June 30, 2023 at 4:27 PM #1992248AI writing, art, character creation, voices and animation. Soon a single person can type in "create a movie like Star Wars with poor acting,Mary Sue and 2 mcuffins " and you'll get a Disney production.

June 30, 2023 at 7:49 PM #1992292They revealed this a few months ago and all it is is a text control of existing morphs. There's a thread in Daz forums about it and the community pretty much ripped Daz's ass over it.
This is just another attempt to short circuit real software, and makes me certain that Studio 5 will never happen.June 30, 2023 at 8:13 PM #1992294I forgot it can write the soundtrack as well.
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/ai-music-drake-weeknd-ghostwriter977-beatles-elvis-voice-1234770094/Wouldn't using existing morphs make Daz a pirate?
July 1, 2023 at 1:54 AM #1992335From the press release itself:
Tafi currently allows users to output high-quality characters from Daz Studio...and its next update will include NVIDIA’s Omniverse via support for Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD).
They're referring to Daz Studio 5 here, so they clearly are not abandoning Daz Studio, and it will remain a key tool in the 3D pipeline. If anything, with the addition of USD support they mean to make Daz Studio more appealing to game developers and animators.
[Tafi] has devised a methodology by which it can record attribution, and thereby monetization, for artists who opt-in to be included in the engine.
In other words, the individual artists can choose whether to allow their products to be included in the AI's data set, and if they consent they would be paid according to some formula, likely based on how many times per month their assets get chosen by the AI in the generation of a result. There would likely also be a (small) base amount paid simply for making the item available to the AI, whether it gets used in any requests that month or not.
So if I am a PA who produces a cowboy hat product for Genesis 9, and over the course of a month Daz Studio users around the world use the AI prompts to generate results, some fraction of those results might include my cowboy hat, and the more times my hat gets used in a result, the more I get paid for it at the end of the month.
The implication here is that Daz Studio users would likely be able to use the software in two modes--"traditional" and "AI":
In "traditional" mode it would work pretty much the way it does now, using only assets the user has installed locally, without any AI involved. You would buy assets from the Daz Store (or elsewhere) as usual, but not have access to any of the AI features. The products of PAs who do not opt-in to the AI system would only be available this way, presumably. Their AI-friendly products may also be available for individual sale this way.
To use "AI" mode I expect there to be a subscription model involved, since the only way to make the AI training process effective and efficient is to train it on the complete set of assets available in the Daz Store, updated daily. This training would take place on Tafi's servers, and all AI requests would be served from that cloud. Users would not be purchasing individual assets, they would be paying a fixed monthly/annual fee to have access, effectively, to all of the store content (minus the products of PAs who did not consent), since the AI could draw from any of it to satisfy a request.
I would also expect that there will be a new standard specification for products to make them more "AI-friendly". In part this would build on the Smart Content of DS4, which supports a lot of metadata that many PAs currently ignore because it is marked as "optional"--things like tags and descriptions that AI would need in order to make decisions about whether to consider a product to satisfy a request. I expect those metadata fields to become mandatory--or at least it is certainly in the PA's interest to fill them out now, if they want their products to be selected by the AI.
Well-designed AI-friendly products should also provide more morph parameters, so that the AI could be more flexible in satisfying requests. If your product is a skirt, for instance, and it only comes in one length, the AI will only be able to choose it for that length, but if you provide a length parameter morph the AI can use your skirt to satisfy a much larger range of requests (and you will make more money).
Older products would likely need to be updated to this new standard to make them usable by the AI engine, so PAs will probably be encouraged to update their catalogues accordingly if they want those products included.
For those users who are currently spending hundreds of dollars every month on content, a subscription model has a lot of appeal--it will definitely be much cheaper, while giving them access to everything, and without having to store all of it locally.
It will be totally unappealing to users who spend nothing on content, however, because the AI is a cloud-provided service--there's no way to get around paying for that service, if you want to use it. Pirates will still be able to continue sharing products from the Daz Store and other marketplaces as usual, but only for use in "traditional" mode--the AI features won't be available without a paid subscription.
The real question for pirates is whether the subscription model can be gamed to download and repackage assets to share, or whether those assets will be encrypted or personalized to prevent that. It would be simple enough to craft a text prompt for each new item that appears in the Daz Store every day to force the AI to choose that item and download it, but whether the item could be exported and repackaged remains to be seen. Clever and resourceful pirates will surely give that a try, anyway 😉
July 1, 2023 at 3:18 AM #1992361Not sure what the Omniverse and OpenUSD are all about, sounds interesting though. Tried reading about it just now, but I can't see a benefit to someone like myself, maybe the benefits will become more apparent to me later when I see it in use.
Not sure I would ever use an AI though to create DAZ stuff. It just seems easier for me to move a slider up or down a hair than it is to continually tell an AI to "tweak more, tweak more, tweak less" etc.
One thing i'm curious though is the rendering. If its cloud-based, when you tell it what you want, does it return your request "rendered"? That would remove the need for users to shell out $$$ for high end video cards if we just get the rendered result back to us.
July 1, 2023 at 3:31 AM #1992362The USD stuff is about making it easier to import and export 3D assets between different apps without losing important information. Like if you export an object as OBJ or FBX or any other common format you won't always get the result you expect when you import it into another app, because these formats don't support all the same information, or don't store them the same way. USD is an attempt to define a "universal" 3D asset format so you get the same result in DAZ Studio, Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.
As for the rendering, that will still all take place on your computer. The AI is not generating the image in this case, it's just choosing which assets and which morph settings should be used, and sends that data to your computer to render. Essentially it is just generating a DAZ scene file and sending that to you.
July 1, 2023 at 6:16 AM #1992377At the moment, it is a beta project. I registered to test..., since I use Daz's base models for simulations with industrial objects: I'm not going to ask him to make me a female elf with 4 eyes... 😀
What they don't say is how much they will charge you when it is definitive. That's typical in marketing: "Try our new hamburgers for free, and when you don't want another one, we'll charge you twice the price of a normal one".July 1, 2023 at 10:16 AM #1992413[Tafi] has devised a methodology by which it can record attribution, and thereby monetization, for artists who opt-in to be included in the engine.

And how would Daz know whether or not a user had called a certain morph in Studio's AI? Would Studio 5 need to be online?

To use the AI functionality DS5 would need to be able to send your text query to Tafi's server, since the AI (and its database) lives there.
So you'd type something like, "black cowboy hat for Genesis 8 male with wide brim and gold hatband" and it sends that query to the server, where the AI tries to find suitable products to match that request, sets the morph parameters for the brim size, band colour, etc. and sends you the resulting DUF file. The AI knows which products and morphs it ended up selecting for you, and the accounting system gets that info directly from the AI.

Than copy over the content from that server like they did in the beginning with the activation server from Windows when they introduced online activation. Not saying it's easy to copy the content from that DS5 AI server but with some hacking tricks it's possible.
July 1, 2023 at 2:55 PM #1992557With AI one can already create images and I wonder what for one will need Daz3D in future.
AI can help Daz3D a lot to create scenes, to pose characters and make them smile/sad, fat/thin, look like an actor, ... without the need to create and/or apply morphs.
Of course AI may already create the finished image but some people may still like to tweak settings or to create animations.
And then AI should be able to 'render' the final images much faster than any traditional ray-tracing algorithm can. -
