Erp, I'm glad I didn't jump ship to DS. I stopped buying Poser when they added the online check-ins. I legally own several copies of Poser 11, but I only use a cracked version to stop the bloody check-ins. Never going there! And no, I agree that this won't get people to flock to Poser, people will just go elsewhere entirely. Like Blender, which is probably where I'll end up the day my Poser version stops working.
October 8, 2024 at 1:29 pm #2094646i guess they bought out ManFriday's plugins. remember how they did the same with the strand based hair editor? it used to be a separate plugin until DAZ bought them and pulled the old plugin
October 8, 2024 at 1:39 pm #2094647it's definitely that the free version will likely be left behind in favor the Premier version, knowing they the chances of more plugins and QOL features will be locked behind a subscription, and DS5 will 100% be subscription only. this is most likely a way to force people over. this tactic has been done before with other software.
October 8, 2024 at 1:45 pm #2094648if anyone is willing to find a way to crack this, it would be awesome
October 8, 2024 at 1:55 pm #2094650Man, I step out for a little while, and it all goes to shit?
Oof.
Glad I saved up all those copies of the DS install files.
I'll wait (a loooong time!) to see what comes of this latest release. The fact that they rushed something out the door so quickly raises too many red flags.
October 8, 2024 at 2:03 pm #2094653@Pooper Exactly! like the fact that the $200+ bundles are no longer being made, and this suddenly being rushed makes be believe that they are close to bankruptcy (or an acquisition)
you don't suddenly do all of this unless you're THAT desperate.
October 8, 2024 at 2:52 pm #2094656@gelstat the premier version of the plugins are installed as separate installs (they're not bundled), so someone will have to subscribe and find a way to crack the plugins that way.
i want to subscribe for the discounted prices, but are against the fact that they are paywalling a software (and plugins) behind it.
October 8, 2024 at 4:27 pm #2094671I can't see the services involving number crunching being done on their servers, since that would require a lot of bandwidth that I don't see Tafi/Daz being willing to pay for. I imagine it'll be another simplistic login or lock that will be child's play to crack.
October 8, 2024 at 5:01 pm #2094672If there is a problem with any of this do notcome to me, do not email me, do not thank me.
One of my failings is that if something new comes out gotta have it, gotta have it.
So Daz 4.23.
As mentioned if you use DIM it stores the files on your computer, you can select a box that says install when completed.I unchecked the box
I already had two versions of Daz (Studio & Public BuildBeta,)
I sacrificed the public build.
I unzipped the installation files off the computer and copied and pasted the files over the existing version of public build....replacing all files.
Worked.
Now
What worked for me may not work for you.
I do not give tech support, answer questions,or come to your house.
But I do provide a link.
If you don't like Bunkr....tough...that is all there is
If you cannot download it,,,,tough....that is all there is

October 8, 2024 at 5:18 pm #2094673Hey thanks Anna! I don't do DIM and my copy of Studio is on my offline computer so this is great!
October 8, 2024 at 5:22 pm #2094674This whole subscription crap doesn't bode well for the future. What if they make the renderer online only like Octane or Redshift (in Cinema4d) already are?
October 8, 2024 at 6:05 pm #2094677Octane is online-only now? I still have an old offline copy somewhere (never use it, or Reality). 🙂
Online-only would require a GPU farm - something I don't see Tafi putting the money out for, not when there's a free GPU in every customer's computer already and CPU to fall back on.
I do see them dumping the Iray engine eventually, but not for an online-only thing.
October 8, 2024 at 6:13 pm #2094678"Online-only would require a GPU farm"
No, if it's like Octane or Redshift the rendering still proceeds on local GPUs but the renderer only works if it's logged in online.October 8, 2024 at 10:02 pm #2094699At this point I'm just pivoting to traditional 2D art. Nobody can put ink and paper behind a subscription service. The realism of 3D was holding me back, anyway.
October 8, 2024 at 10:06 pm #2094700Personally if Daz goes down the toilet, it's deserved. Although I can't see it happening. Not everyone who uses Daz posts on the forum.
I'm also glad I picked up those (now Premier) Plugins from here. Daz won't see another coin from me.
F**k, Daz. I'd rather support this site.
