I ran into a post in Daz that mentioned that Dawn 2 was still being worked on. It seems that there's still some remnants of life at Hivewire...

I wonder what they're all going to do when Rendo dies taking Poser with it? It can't be long now.May 21, 2024 at 2:31 PM #2076026To answer your questions,
Dawn and Dusk can be re-jointed, textured, and re-topoed to work it DS, so that's not too big of an issue. Doing this only relies on whether or not Chris Creek wants to do the work. Not sure if Rendo bought exclusive rights to the figures though.
I do agree that Rendo itself is not long for this world. Unless they radically re-work Poser and make it something with a wow factor to rival anything else at the prosumer level, it's an application in hospice as far as I'm concerned. (Wow factor? Say for example they use Unity as a render engine and make it all realtime - or even better, go full AI, rig it to accept loras and discard mesh altogether, but use the newer interface to manipulate it.)

@pooper, is that even possible? I would be great as there's some stunning models available. The clothes and costumes alone are excellent.May 21, 2024 at 8:44 PM #2076081Not sure, really - I mean, they'd have to do some sort of dual-engine thing, or maybe even discard mesh altogether. DAZ put something together on the back-end for their (obviously dumb 1st-gen) AI thing that I bet no one uses, so it's not like it'd be impossible.
May 21, 2024 at 10:40 PM #2076101@pooper, I thought a while back that we could use AI for rendering. I'm impressed all to heck with what it does with draping fabrics and various materials and surfaces. Clothes look spectacular because they drape perfectly, and satin?..it looks perfect too! So much better than any shader.
I envision an AI-renderer that examines the scene, recognizes the light sources, objects and materials of the items then, just like our brains, illuminates the scene accordingly. Rather than spend ba-zillions of GPU cycles doing Cow-knows-how-many calculations, it simply lights stuff the way it's been trained, similarly to how AI gets trained to make huge penises on a female's nipples (ya...no kidding). Some might say that it's not completely accurate but who cares. It would look good/great in minutes vice days of rendering. -
