We are on the edge of CGI people looking real and then this happens. Welcome to the uncanny valley.

I know what you mean.February 25, 2019 at 8:16 PM #975159It was done intentionally to both pay homage to the fact that it comes from an anime and to differentiate her as a special type of cyborg. I loved the movie and they actually did a really good job at making her just appear like a real human with really big eyes. There were some parts of the movie where I totally forgot about the whole big eye thing.
February 25, 2019 at 10:08 PM #975260That was sorta why I posted it. While most of the industry wants to lean toward realism, they made her look like ET on purpose. Arent most characters doe eyed in anime. Why not make everyone look this way. While it looks like it will be pretty good, the look is distracting and ultimately pointless.
I personally would enjoy it better if she looked normal or if everyone was deformed in the same way.February 26, 2019 at 2:38 AM #975473She is cute bro

Some things just dont transfer well to real life
February 26, 2019 at 9:26 PM #976424Maybe it would have look better if they would have make the whole eye bigger and not just the iris and the pupil. I wonder ?
In that regard, i think the Golum picture does a better job at harmonizing that style.
Sure it make the character obviously not realistic human, but....if you want to have a character with an animesque look, isn't that your supposed to aim for ? Even if you want to try to emulate realistic texture on it after ?I feel characters like Rosylen seem to achieve a better "animesque" eyes style than what they did in that film. Sure the texture here of that character isn't as realistic as what they have in the movie, but you can change that. I wonder if it would have made a better result.
February 27, 2019 at 12:34 AM #976670I think pushing the eye limit to what might have been the max believable limit would have been better than crossing the limit. There are people with large eyes but to push it into the valley was a bit much. I like robot sci-fi stuff so ill eventually watch it BUT, they eye thing will be very distracting.
February 28, 2019 at 5:10 PM #978802real world photographs and movie makers try their best to make their art as unreal as possible, CG artist tend to try to emulate reality as best as possible. Just have a look at Deviant Art, the photogallerys vs. the 3d artist galleries shows that very well
oh and those big eyes from this movie shown makes me cry because of pain 😉
