This character is named Sarah. She is utilizing full SSS and translucency textures. That includes eyes, eyebrows, eyelashes, skin and dress (even though you can't see it in this portrait style render. Not her hair though.. not because it wouldn't look better but because there is like 10 surfaces to rework and I was to lazy). I know the lighting isn't perfect (I did no manual set manipulations to the presets) but I've tried several different sets and she looks just as good in the others.
Her question is..

Freckles?
or

No Freckles?
I gave the freckled areas of the normal map a very slight elevation. I know, I know.. freckles have a smooth surface but it really helps maintain their texture distinction even from further distances while other sunkissed freckles of this nature seem to blend in with the skin when you pull the camera away.

January 7, 2023 at 6:16 PM #1911016I'd go with the freckles, gives her more character.
form me personal, the face feels a bit to long, the freckles optic-ly "break" the length, and the face looks a bit rounder.
If yo go for the freckles, I would place some extra on ther parts of her face. Do not mean Dalmation, but just 1 or 2 here and there. I think it would look more "natural". But again, just in my vision.January 7, 2023 at 6:25 PM #1911019I like the freckles, but aren't they usually virtually all over the body rather than confined to a small area of the face?

My daughter has freckles only in her face.
January 8, 2023 at 5:35 PM #1911394She's cute. Definitely go with the freckles.
Some of the comments above assume you're going for realism. Are you? In your prior work your characters have had some toon-like features/colors. Exaggerated and isolated freckles make sense for that style.

Cute character Kefka and ya I say freckles too 🙂
January 9, 2023 at 2:17 PM #1911722I’m a sucker for freckles!
Lovely character and render. The lips are gorgeous!
January 9, 2023 at 4:31 PM #1911759I googled 'examples of face with freckles' and there are examples with just this pattern style, so you seem to be on the mark as far as placement goes. She is lovely either way, but the addition of freckles makes her more unique. I'd go with unique any day.
January 10, 2023 at 12:03 AM #1911861So..
No freckles? Got it. 🙂
I just downloaded Substance Painter and am working on making unique style freckle layout. Will update if/when I complete it.
Thanks for all the responses! Will take them all into consideration, except the horse head (length). That is my personal preference.
