Hi Guys,
As some of you may know, I do the odd conversion from G3 and G8 to G9.
It takes a bit of work, but it saves a lot off money.
So...Why buy when you can convert?
Wondering what all off you think about this...
Greets GaverDecember 16, 2022 at 6:01 AM #1901696Why not do both? Convert things that you want to keep using, buy new things that you want to use, etc.
For me, a lot of G3 stuff doesn't convert well, and a lot of the clothing I'd want to use has lower res textures than the other stuff used in my projects, or only came in 3delight and I'd have to do more shader work on top of upscaling the textures.
So for the stuff that works or doesn't have anything quite like it currently available, I love it and use the hell out of it. For the stuff that doesn't, there's usually something similar/superior in future gens.
December 16, 2022 at 6:41 AM #1901704I hear you. And you have a point at getting the best of both worlds.
I stopped converting clothing etc because daz studio does the conversion for me if I use say a G8F dress on G9F.
So basic-ly I am talking about poses.
Saw a lot of people offer points for "adult poses for G9. I am planning to convert adult poses from G3 and G8 to G9. Not that I do erotic images, but as an "service" to the zone community
Greets gaverDecember 16, 2022 at 8:57 AM #1901726Yes, there is a 'market' for them.
Character conversions are another aspect.
There are older V4 & some G3F which are worthy, but have not received attention.
Conversely, there are those of us, who would like to see the G9 better characters converted to the more proven G8 bases.
🙂
December 16, 2022 at 9:43 AM #1901741Didn't look in to char conversion, find poses challenging enough. There are the "out of the box" converters, but poses need a lot of tweeking if you have more then one figure. Hands, feet, fingers, limbss. Let's say you get the "general" pose, the rest is patients and a lot of clicking...
I have started in the Vicky eara ( before Victoria 4) and seen some nice created characters in the genesis progressions. There are definitely some worth of "updating"to newer versions of the Genesis line.
guess it would be nice indeed to transfer g9 to g8, and I think it is already possible ( read something on the zone I think)December 16, 2022 at 9:52 AM #1901745I have been given info on how it should be done, but have yet to try it.
From a user-friendly point of view a potted script would be prefrable, to minimise issues.
🙂
December 16, 2022 at 10:05 AM #1901749I'm waiting until there is some convert tools to go from G9 to G8. Not really using G9 much, as I mostly use G8.
December 16, 2022 at 10:56 AM #1901772Very much my situation too.
In fact I don't even have G9 installed.December 16, 2022 at 12:18 PM #1901790I always go to gaver for my clothes conversions, though admittedly it's only been a few outifts. Though I'll always pick up a Gaver conversion over the original counterpart because I know he does an excellent job on the converted outfits.
Some of those old outfits may not have the 4/8k maps of todays products but they do have something newer clothes don't. I'm talking about morphs. You can't beat a good outfit that has lots of care put into versatility.
Dforce is fine but it isn't going to allow you to fine tune wearables unless you put hours of your time into it. There are the occasional creators that give you the best of both worlds but they are far and in-between.
So on behalf of me and those like me. Thanks Gaver!
December 16, 2022 at 12:26 PM #1901792Yep, quite agree.
I'll always take slider morphs over dforce.
December 16, 2022 at 2:25 PM #1901836December 16, 2022 at 8:26 PM #1901948Shouldn't that fit suit method to get G8 to G9 also work in the opposite direction?
December 16, 2022 at 10:24 PM #1901969Thanks for the link.
Looks likely it would work, but I will have to run through that a few times, make notes & see how it goes.
🙂
December 17, 2022 at 10:16 AM #1902119It does work. That's how i made conversions of my personal morphs before the tutorials started coming out.
