I joined a group so that i could maybe get some help i joined = 3d programs but now i dont know where to find that group.
I have just download carrara form here and each time durring instalation i get error about unpacking direct x file so i have to click ignore to continue the install. I decided to download it again incase it was a corrupt durring download but the same error happens again about unpacking a direct x file from the downloaded file. If i click ignore the install continues however when i try to setup the content for runtime it gives me errors when i try to load an object or somethng.
Im a daz user but thought i would look at carrara but i cant seem to get it to install properly.
Can someone point me in the right direction for some help?
ThanksJuly 19, 2018 at 12:21 AM #683608I've never installed it but I looked into it when I found a product that I really liked that was only for Carrara and it doesn't seem like it's being developed or supported anymore. The "latest" version is 8.5pro and that came out in 2013 (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/16777/start). My advice would be to not get bogged down with an abandoned platform and look at other more up to date software.

July 20, 2018 at 11:46 AM #685244I installed it about a year ago. It worked fine for me. DAZ abandoned Hex for years (last update was 2011), then suddenly, decided to make is free and begin regular support again (late last year). Never say never when it comes to DAZ deciding to revive a product. Bryce and Carrara both seem to have been abandoned at the moment. Heck, I don't think either even have a 64-bit version available. But it never hurts to download products and learn them.
Make sure you uninstall everything and reboot your PC. Maybe there's a conflict with the directX driver that already installed. Go to Microsoft and download the latest version of DirectX and see if that helps. What's your OS? Like I said, I didn't have any problems with the file from this site.
I agree with @evilmonkey, there are better options available for animation right now. C4D and blender being two.

It's abandonware yet still being sold with a fat price tag.
We never know if it might be updated like Hexagon, but for now just leave it.
Move on and get blender if you're going down the FREE path. -
