so i have come across an issue when using mesh smoothing on say a dress. before applying any smoothing modifier i get the clothing to fit the character. sometimes it does not work work cause of the characters shape but most of the time is does. this is usually around the breast area as alot of clothing does not fit right in the area. so i will apply the mesh smooth modifier and sometimes it works great but alto of the times i get poke through on the breast. adding more iterations sometimes helps. sometimes i play with the dials on the clothing itself and get it to work but other times it seems that every time i move the dial the poke through just goes to another part of the boob. anyone know a way to fix this. thanks for any help

October 1, 2019 at 5:36 PM #1268692I can feel your pain Bob. As i am using all the time custom character with quite curvy figures, i ofthenly get that kind of problem.
Like you said, smoothing modifier do help a lot with those poke through. Unfortunaly, there is so much that that function can do. Especially if the poke through is too pronunced.
Increasing the smoothing iteration help a bit more, but even then. Sometime it's fighting too much again the shape of the figure and create those micro hole. Also, i found out that a lot of the time, increasing too much the smoothing iteration can make you loose the piece of clothing's detail, curves and shape. It can also create some weird texture bug with clothing who have multiple layer of texture.
I belive the reason why some clothing do conform better than other with the smoothing modifier, is how the artist designed it and how many polygone he/she has used in certain place of the clother for the detail and the shape of that part. The more polygone there is, the more easily that part of the clothing can bend and follow unusual curve. Also, some cloths (most of the time, old one.) don't have all the morph transfered to them from the character. For exemple, i ofthenly get poke through from nipples because the artist didn't intended anything for that in the asset.
Anyway, when this is happening, you have few option left. You can always try to increase/lossen the part of that clothing so that the poke through is less pronunced and help the smoothing modifier do a better job at it. But i understand that something it's no good. For exemple, if you are having nipple poke through, it's sad to be forced to increase the overall size of the breast area just for that.
In the case of when there is just a small specific area that need fixing like that, what i do is using the D-Form tool in Daz. I click on the cloth that need fixing in the scene tab, click on the d-form to spawn the zone modifier. Then i resize the zone so that i affect only the zone with the poke through and then i push it out, left, right, up or down in the modifier section depending on what need to be done to help with the poke through. Then when i'm satiffied, i spawn the custom morph that replicate that d-form to save that fix, delete de d-form and active the morph in the clothing just like any other regular morph. And there you go. Most of the time, it fix my problem.
Learning how to use d-form tool might seem a bit tricky, but it's not that hard. I've linked a few video tutorial here on the forum in the past. You should be able to find them again if you search. Good luck!
