Here's an idea. How hard would it be in WordPress to block leeches from downloading your shared posts?
I was thinking that when you posted/shared an original item you'd get some kind of tag or medal. Others could select whether or not people without this tag/medal would be able to download your posts. I don't think that it would get the selfish parasites to post anything, they'd just bitch and whine about it like the immature pieces of shit that they are, but it sure would be fun. Members could also vote on giving this tag/medal to those who couldn't post but where otherwise contributing members by helping others in the forums or taking part in contests.I would be for it since that also might get rid of all these point gathering accounts that do nothing but sending points to the main account. These accounts never upload anything and just leech or ask for something to be posted, not really contributing anything to the community. Let them bitch and whine.... just makes them stand out and easy to block or even ban
It might even get some people to actually share again... like me. I stopped because of all these leeches and them stealing the assets to place them behind paywalls
I think it is going to be very difficult to "identify" a leech. They can use VPN, be a "discreet user", so the policy to apply would be "a percentage of contribution, another of participation in, for example, the "general chat", and make a sieve, totally contrary to this idea, by countries... 3dLoad, Render-state, etc..., live from Zone...
I don't think there is a solution: It is up to the user to choose "a worthy pirate site", or "a leecher pirate site...".
For example, I download little, but I participate in the chat. That should be considered as a point in favor of trust for me. If I download a lot, and I was "quiet", well..., something smells bad.I don't care about stuff being posted to sleazy shitbag sites, anyone with half a brain comes here. I've been thinking about torrenting again vice posting here. The Emule network is also a great place to share on. There's already some older Poser items on it.
There's been some discussion on our discord server about this and it's apparently quite easy in WordPress.
The main reason I stopped posting was an individual came in and decided that creating a thriving back door community, point hoarding and an attitude of you gimme this ill give you give me that.
The site ultimately is a share site. And a pirate site. Torrents were IMHO never meant to be exclusive. Sharing should provide benefits like early access to posts. Special fluff like badges, Avatars separate message area, ect..
There's no way I could afford to post something comparable to 3Dmax and PS every month or Daz Bundles. I can afford a moderately priced product every couple months. Some are here because they can barely afford the light bill. You would take that away from them?
I'm sure there are groups of people trading between themselves as recently seen in posts. Is that really the attitudes the site wants to drive people in? Was that why the site was formed? To get everyone to go somewhere else? This site has lost sight of its purpose. Most of the Mod interaction is them requesting products. Some threads haven't seen a post in years.
Stuff would still get funnel to sister sights just slower. You'd need to track and tag posts for awhile to even get a hint of who's posting your files to other sites. If that's even possible. You'd probably be surprised at who owns some of these sites. You've probably had them on your friends list for years.
Most everything I posted here wasn't for points. It was to give back to the community that gave me something for nothing. It was because friends shopped here. I've considered multiple times to start posting again since I still come here often. Why should others suffer because of a few bad eggs.
It would be easy to block leeches from here , just make it so you have to post stuff to be able to download stuff , NO pts NO downloads unless you post stuff.
Not sure how relevant this is, but insofar as original content is concerned, I have yet to see any of the original (that is, the homebrew) content show up anywhere else. Most of the stuff that gets leeched off of here are commercial items. Heck, even most of Shinteo's shared goods stay here.
I think this has to do with the fact that a lot of the homebrew stuff (hey, mine included!) isn't polished, sometimes has errors or missing files (guilty), and doesn't have the allure of being on DAZ, Renderosity, Renderh*b, etc.
@dOggOd, I think you've missed my point. Re-read the last few lines. Even folks who couldn't post items would still be able to earn the download tag/medal simply by contributing in other ways. Helping others and taking part in contests is a great way to enhance the groups culture.

Banning people will likely not help. If one can't download things here one will find a different site. Or users may start posting a lot of crap to get points.I think a part of the goal of this is to stem the tide of "different sites" sourcing their assets (that they then profit from through either extensive ads or membership fees) from here. Right now, pretty much every other Daz asset site uses the assets from this site exclusively. If it's not shared publicly here, it's very seldom on the other sites.
I must admit that I never post anything (and I do feel bad about it), I download items to try them out before I may eventually buy them. I don’t like asking DAZ for a refund and so many items in the past few years have been disappointing to me. I probably end up buying a very small percentage of them and delete the rest (my HD is very small).
