Been messing around with odd settings trying for a more photo real portrait. My current results Daz Iray, no postwork.
May 13, 2018 at 1:18 PM #603528The hands look great. Body i cant tell, the chest doesnt seem well lit behind hair to make a good call. Something is definaty wrong with the face. Tone doesnt match the body. Hair looks good also but really needs more light. Back or side lighting?
May 13, 2018 at 1:46 PM #603556I'm assuming HDRI lighting being generated, you may want to bump up the intensity a little. As @d0gg0d said, the face looks off compared to the rest of the skin tone seen, it may be because of the makeup though. It looks like those girls that put on a layer of foundation on their face that doesn't match their skin-tone and they end up with a line around the side of their face.

Looking at the larger size on your DA page it just looks strange but I can't say for certain why. The neck is in shadow but is a lighter colour than most of the face above it. And the skin on the chest is mostly obscured by hair and clothing but it looks a little flat to me. The render settings look good though, you image is crisp and the detail that's on the clothing is clear.

Further progress with some more tweaking.. getting there. Not sure why the chest is acting the way it is.

May 14, 2018 at 4:10 AM #604333Everything is looking pretty good accept for the chest/neck area.
What setting are you messing with?

That's the thing. To this point, I have not touch a single setting on Bethany aside from some minor face morphing. The difference in the two settings above are her trans presets. The only settings used are camera, lights and render settings.
May 14, 2018 at 8:21 AM #604518The bottom picture seems brighter but it's too small to see the face/neck area properly. Have you tried swapping in another character to see if it's just an issue with the model?
May 14, 2018 at 9:50 PM #605189What color is under her chest texture for transparency ? maybe its different.
Amazing what a few lights csn do 🙂
Im still looking for the magic skin.

The settings on Bethany's arms, legs and torso are exactly the same aside from the maps themselves. Has to be something there. It has to be something in the Bethany package. I've halted that project for the time being as I was getting better results with other characters with less frustration.
See a quick render of G8 Aisling though I will be sticking with G3s for my overall project as the G8s are outside of my criteria.
May 14, 2018 at 10:14 PM #605206Thats a nice render. If you find a magic setting feel free to share the knowledge.

@d0gg0d Thanks, it's still a ways off from where I want it to be, but it's certainly going in the right direction.
May 15, 2018 at 3:00 AM #605414Ive seen a handful of them online so I know its possible.
Browse Deviant Art Daz3d skin settings if you havent already.
there's a few different post that may lead in the right direction.

That's exactly what I've been doing. Following a couple artists whose focus is on realistic skin with minimal or no postwork. There is pretty fantastic stuff there.
May 15, 2018 at 5:24 AM #605538I just messed around with skin manager for about 10-15 minutes. I put a male G3 skin on G3 female. Covered the hair with clothes. Its a bit to shiney but could fix that easy. 33% render.

If you havent used the skin manager yet its worth installing. Makes editing skin easy.
May 15, 2018 at 5:26 AM #605541What are you using for lighting? I have had real luck with using cubes to refract the light and bounce it around a little more, gives a really nice look. I think, at least.
Cool little tutorial (HERE) to get that working, seems to produce great results, gives a nice depth and feel. Again, my opinion.
I have also been using lights i make from primitives, mainly the sphere and the Taurus, provides a much more diffused shadow, instead of the hard lines from spot and the other lights, w/o much tweaking.
(though i may use something to increase contrast sometimes... but that is the extent of it, mostly, unless the art truly calls for it, like my billy the kid, where i wanted that old time look.)
I also hate post work, with a passion. I want it to look real as possible in the render, just in case i want to animate it, or swing it to unity and walk around in the scene with Oculus... too bad the shaders don't transfer perfectly.
