It simply seems exaggerated to me to demand 1000 points for a tacky swimsuit, or 500 for a very limited use microphone, no matter how Giger. And we already know who I'm talking about ... 😀
November 18, 2021 at 9:30 PM #1750067Not sure why we would have a set cost feature if you're not allowed to set the cost. Seems kinda like a flaw in the system.
November 18, 2021 at 11:12 PM #17500791000 points for some ultra-niche mediocre item that most people will never use in ten thousand years is a total ripoff, though two things come to mind: First, I'm with Adam... price ceilings don't sit very well with me (I mean, if someone cracks a copy of the latest bleeding-edge app suite and puts it up for 1,000 pts, then bless 'em.) Second, it prevents complacency.
November 19, 2021 at 12:17 AM #1750092I see it a bit differently. If you are prepared to fork out the points for something then go ahead, if not you can always give it a miss. Analogy - it seems that people are quite happy to pay twice (or more) the MSRP for the latest GPUs. It's a personal choice and nobody's forcing you to part with your money, or points in this case.
November 19, 2021 at 2:06 AM #1750098Free market? Perish the thought.
November 19, 2021 at 2:22 AM #1750099Ha ha it's a very fine line between where the free market ends and extortion begins. In this case nobody's holding a gun to your head..
November 19, 2021 at 6:37 AM #1750119Sorry, but it seems like something never seen here ... 😀
November 19, 2021 at 7:43 AM #1750137Sorry Abad but if it's "something never seen here before" then maybe it's worth the 1000 pts. If the OP has made his own textures and UV mapping for it then maybe he feels justified for the elevated price for it. It's not something I would find useful myself but I'm not the arbiter of either taste or pricing and nor would I diss others for their contributions.
November 19, 2021 at 1:03 PM #1750198Not any different than coating someone else's 3D car with a coat of paint and calling it "custom" to converting a dress to another character that most anyone could do in 30 seconds. Add to that repackaging 10 posts and calling it a bundle or adding an installer to call it a different file.
It's a pointless battle (pun intended) that's been discussed for years. One way to look at it is don't address it. The stuff is free stop complaining and click or don't click. The other way is to actually monitor the site to keep it efficient and uncluttered. I'll let you decide on what you think the mods decided.
I've considered posting 20 pages of custom cars at 500 a pop. Just to see what fish O hook. Ultimately you have no need to click but you still have to tell your mind to ignore it. That is the frustrating part. Some people can just ignore something, some people it doesn't bother and some people just need to deal with it seems.
They author of the product is an invalid argument. Some artist at Daz/Ren/ect do exceptional work and my take several days maybe weeks to perfect a item. I don't see people here backing their request for money and support for time and effort.
I've seen group project mods for games like Skyrim that took months and were offered for free. Cracked software that was as much as a house payment uploaded for free. Technically these points are free. The problem is people somehow attribute value to them and we keep feeding the machine.
November 19, 2021 at 1:36 PM #1750213Maybe all you are right, but in my "custom content", such as the Minifier, or G8 Animations, etc ..., which took time and effort to program, I was only awarded 100 points, I don't know why regulation. I've been working on an animation package for this website for about 4 months, and I'm not going to ask for 1000 points. It seems stupid to me: If you want to win something, you can sell it at Daz or Rendo ... I think we are here to share intelligence and knowledge, not to speculate.
November 19, 2021 at 1:45 PM #1750219The problem is you put a monetary value on a free item. The creator puts a monetary value on the item. They think it's worth 1000 (free) points. So they basically think their product is worthless. Rather than give to the community that supports their addiction, they want to overcharge you nothing. So I value the product as less than nothing. If you want, actually support creators that charge money. Upload it here for 50 points and IMHO it's worth more to the community because it cost you something.
November 19, 2021 at 3:15 PM #1750245Is this website for pirated products or do we come here to play poker? 😀
November 19, 2021 at 4:11 PM #1750284Well some think it's risky to download stuff.
I come here to chat and enter contests. Every so often to DL an older item or one that I don't want to search my HD for.
Almost Everything here can be had for no points in the wild so only custom content the sister sites don't want will cost points.
I'm still trying to grasp why the point concept is so strong. When I first started here I eventually had so many I gave them away. I'd really rather see some type of merit system as I've said a few times. Since we grovel over points, the masters see fit to let us believe we have something. Taking notes from government structures works well.
I could get friends here to forward me 50k points without blinking but, why?
I miss the early days when the site ran contests and the community was closer. It slowly slipped away because of points.
There are people that have never contributed anything here and still get free content. If anything you should be upset at is taking time to share with people that care nothing about you. There was a time also when the site gimped the point system because we had to many.
You can look at people points BTW to see just how many they have. Gives you a good concept of "value".November 19, 2021 at 4:38 PM #1750296@d0gg0d
I see you don't understand me. Maybe my tone is always very ironic. I don't care about the point issue ... I hardly use them and when I get to about 100,000, I distribute it. There are direct download sites, without being members or points. In that respect, they matter little to me.
I mean a proportional estimate of what is offered. You have to be ethical, within the piracy situation: We play with smuggling, robbery and theft. We are outside the law.
Since this is how we are, you have to be something moral to play within some rules. It just doesn't seem right to me to play being an alpha-male with the pretense that my "original content" is the best and most exclusive, because of my beautiful face. 😀November 19, 2021 at 9:53 PM #1750405Well for the most part, we do not respect the creators content since we upload it for free.
We do not respect each other because only a handful of people actually post most of the content and the majority leech and give nothing back.
Several people do backdoor trades or hold out posting content for more points if they ever post the item at all. Not to forget the special delay option which I find ridiculous.
People invest months in some content that is shared freely in game mods just because they want to give to the community they are a part of. Hackers do nothing more that sign their name if they decide not to include a virus.
People use to seed torrents just because. I kept a few on my HD that were available whenever I was logged on.
Its not that I dont understand just you. I do not understand the entire concept of buying FREE items with FREE points. If somebody came on and said. He guys I am fixing to buy and post G8F hair and I would like it is someone would buy and post G8F dress. I bet that it would eventually still get posted. I talk with people that spend several hundreds of real $$$ every month on content. They post because they want to post. They do not post for points.
I buy and share with them because its the "right" thing to do. I get your point. IMHO its the wrong thing to ask for 1000 points for a product BUT, maybe to them they think its worth the time they invested in it. Personally, if you use this site and download $20,000 worth of content, you should feel happy to upload something for 0 points.
