The horizon, the skies, and the scenery far behind that isn't covered with your geometry asset. How you guys prefer to do it? Using HDRI image and rendering it all together, or placing the backdrop in the post-work image processing using photoshop?
February 10, 2020 at 5:21 AM #1465605For me, it depend. When i have in scene a background element. (Like a forest, with some ground, a few trees. Or a house/courtyard with a lot of element, i prefer to add the background (generaly a sky) in the scene render myself. Either with a HDRI or just a simple backdrop asset.
But if it's a simple or two character, posing without any element of background, kinda like a pin up, then a prefer sometime just render them on a empty transparent background and then photo editing the background.
Especially when i want to use a background from a certain specific known place where i want to place my character.February 10, 2020 at 6:57 AM #1465670@deepedia Thats really an open ended question.
Are you creating/painting the background?
If you have an idea in mind, can an asset be found to use?I don't have a preference per-Se. It just depends on the piece itself and what it's telling me it wants or needs at the time. I've used backgrounds and skies from other sets in all one render as well as separate renders for composite work in Photoshop. I've also painted my own backgrounds in Photoshop.
February 10, 2020 at 9:53 AM #1465845well, its actually stem from when i rendering a house image with 3/4 view from side, so the rest 1/4 view is transparent, and then there come the moment of confusion of how i fill the background, its easy to use pasted picture as backdrop if our render is focused on front view, but at certain angle like 3/4, I begin to question thing, and thus comes this question
February 10, 2020 at 2:43 PM #1466224I use everything. Mostly us HDRI but, I've used pictures also.
I dislike plain / blank backrounds but, have used them also.
For me at least it depends on the look I want and where the subject is. If I have a window its easy to drop a picture in it. To me If its an open area its easier to drop an HDRI unless you're zooming in close on the subject. Then anything is easy since youre not dropping shadows.
