My current version is 4.23 and, reading the official forum about 4.24, I'm quite reluctant to make the upgrade. I started at 4.22, but upgrades not always are for the better and I'd like to know your opinion about whether it would be worth trying any of the previous ones I have missed.
I´m not having any particular issue with 4.23, but maybe there is a previous one regarded as better in terms of stability, performance or whatever...Thanks in advance
May 24, 2025 at 11:41 AM #2130010I still have 4.12. I also have 4.15 and 4.23. I keep the two older versions because they were better (imo). I have the new version in case I want to use G9 or new tools/morphs that only work in newer versions.
I will also insert my normal response to post such as yours with my advice to learn Blender. It will take some time (there are tons of videos on YT), but in the end, it will be worth it. You can still use DAZ until you become good with Blender.
May 24, 2025 at 2:08 PM #2130018I also have every version of Studio I've ever used...which is pretty much all of them. Most are available on here somewhere.
I also agree that Blender is brilliant.May 24, 2025 at 9:15 PM #2130045Thank you. I`ve already started dabbling with Blender: Very, very basic hard modelling stuff right now. Still have a long, long way ahead of myself. There's a lot to unpack there, but the possibility of creating or customizing a few props at the very least is too tempting not to try.
Best regards,
May 24, 2025 at 10:46 PM #2130062A word of caution with Blender tuts. The community is wildly (even hysterically) enthusiastic and eager to help, but it can be a bit much. Every tut I've seen expects you to memorize an endless stream of keyboard shortcuts because that's how they work. They live and breath Blender so millions of shortcuts comes natural to them. Avoid that bottomless crevice. It's been shown many times that we use positional data to best remember stuff. That comes from millennia of remembering where the best hunting spot was or where the big animals lived that where best avoided. Put the tool pallet someplace sensible (a cheap second monitor is perfect) THEN BLOODY LEAVE IT THERE! The same with the other pallets you use. Keep everything tucked in the same spot and learn the basic tools....and learn them well. Even if you only use it sporadically, you're a lot more likely to remember where each tool or function is vice some obscure shortcut. The advanced tools and fancy stuff is fine but you'll be faster and more confident if you stick with the basic stuff as long as you can. Don't get disheartened by losing interest in a project, it's natural. Move on to something else. We all have that digital closet full of half finished goodies and projects. Maybe they'll get finished some decade but it really doesn't matter if they don't. It's best to have fun first and enjoy what your doing rather than get bogged down on something. You don't want it to turn into work.
Have fun!May 25, 2025 at 4:16 AM #2130080I know what you mean, I've tried BlenderBros tutorials and it's been rather frustrating... thank you for your encouragement!
May 25, 2025 at 6:58 AM #2130091Just for information regarding the best Daz version, I am still using 4.21 which is very stable, almost never crumbles even with numerous models loaded in memory. No reason to change BUT I practically never use G9 so one could consider my practice as a sort of legacy or archive. An old version with a recent rig does marvels (just check the convenient Geforce software BEFORE upgrading, may be tricky because of the way Iray is implemented in Daz).
And I am far more satisfied with that than with my attempts with AI.
So old but happy !May 25, 2025 at 9:30 AM #2130122Horses for courses, springs to mind.
As with all software, 'best' depends on what you are wishing to do with it & it's relative design strengths & weaknesses.
@corbeau, I very much agree with you.I installed the 4.24 release version & it does not read the figure heirarchy at all for me.
I still have the last 4.23 beta & it works fine for me.May 25, 2025 at 4:51 PM #2130148Thank you all very much. Since I'm not interested in G9 at all I think I'll try 4.15 and 4.21 and see what happens...
