After working on 2 characters for about 3 hours yesterday I went to adjust something and while DS didn't crash I got a translucent white screen hang/freeze. Waiting for an hour didn't work. Should have saved.... OK I'm an idiot. Tried a few things to wake it from the grave but nada.
Has anyone ever been able to recover DS from a freeze like this?

I've never even seen it happen.

I know what you're talking about. Unfortunately I've never seen a recovery on this before. You just gotta force close it and start over.

I used to have this with my old PC, as recktat said, all I could do was start anew...

    I was afraid of that @Recktat19 & @Gaver.
I usually save regularly but DS has been very stable for me in 4.15. Should have... file... save. Lesson learnt.

I have had this issue before with 4.21, where only a forced close from task manager worked. I think it happens when the cpu is out of memory or when I have too many windows going. Totally sucks!

I have that sometimes when I switch from normal to IRAY in the viewport. But only after using dforce. Probably a memory problem. I know that problem and always save my scene.
I call this "The white screen Fade-in", Cause its fading in. Never got a Fix for this.

IF you didn't add one of the many 3d assets that seem to deadlock the program these days..

    You could try this.

    1. Close all other non-system applications besides daz studio.
    2. IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE ANOTHER DAZ STUDIO APP. Add one, IE- the beta version. That way you can open two 'versions' of daz at the same time. Open the second daz studio app, load something small and then close that alt version of Daz Studio. (Don't ask me why but this has saved me a few times)
    3. Open a second instance of your monitor screen and move the app over to the second screen. (Again, don't ask me why but it sometimes triggers the app to resume processing)
    4. Scream at / cry at / threaten the Daz Studio app to do what you want OR ELSE. (Probably won't help but might make you feel slightly better)

Hope this helps, though I feel I may have come to late.

    - Take care

I've seen it on occasion - usually it's one of a handful of ancient Poser conversions that does it to me. Unfortunately, I have to axe it.

Its times like that where I wish DS had a periodic auto-save feature that ran in the background.

This has never happened to me, ever, and I use all different formats of assets.

It's happened to me, but most time's goes away. Once fix that worked for me.
I realize there are better ways to do what I'm about to say but I find it the easiest way to explain to someone that has no idea.
Press your windows keys, in the little window (Cortana) type CMD. At the top command should appear. Right click and run as admin. This will open a dos window.
type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Run that. This should fix any windows corrupted files.
I've found for me that this has solved my issues. You know if it says it found issues. This also fixes any other issues you might have with other programs, or stability with windows. Should you have them.
Maybe works for you.. Maybe not.
